2-4 year waiting list?!?

Published

I just got a letter in the mail informing me that that is how long the wait is now. I haven't gotten my number yet. What to do?? I have one pre-req left to go. Should I apply to the LPN program and hope tpo bridge in to the RN program later?? I do not want surgical tech, x ray tech or another field. I want ADN. So frustrating :o

At least you get a number and have a light at the end of the tunnel.

Here it's all done by a lottery system so you hve no idea of how long the wait will be.

I finish up my last pre-reqs next semester... physiology and Microbiology and will be finished by June 2005. The first time I am eligible to apply to the LOTTERY is Spring 2006. If not chosen I apply to the next lottery pick. If I am not chosen 4 consequtive times, then I am eligible for a special 2nd lottery. They save 10 slots in the next class and pick only from this group of people. Of course, If still not chosen... I will be in the 2nd lottery group for the following semester.

I would much rather have a definite entry date even if it was 2 years out.

I am at the mercy of good luck! My plans are to take a phlebotomy course and start working in the hospital setting next summer. Also I have only a few pre-req's left for the BSN program..... I will work on those too while waiting to be selected.

Boy I guess I should be thankful! That would really stink :uhoh21:

Best of luck to you!

I think I am taking next semester off. I can take micro over the summer, and I still have a long wait. Maybe I'll take a little break.

I agree on getting a break!

My hubby has been so understanding of my schedules and how much I want to become at nurse. He works 2 jobs (teaching and umpiring) so I do not have to work at all and can devote myself to studying.

After I told my hubby of my schedule for next semester and how on Mondays I would be having 14 hour days and how I wasn't going to be able to be with him muchon Mondays, he gave me our Anniversary present (10 years).

He told me that maybe by having this info early it would help me get thru this tough semester knowing a grand vacation waited for us in the summer! And we would have LOTS of together time!

My present is a 13 day 12 night Princess cruise and land tour of Alaska!!!!!!!!! I am sooooooooo excited! :balloons: :) :balloons:

I am sooooooo glad I married this man! :) :) :) :) :)

wow, that is awesome!!! I just celebrated my 10 year anniversary this past Friday. We went out for steak and lobster, gotta save money for school, blah! LOL

What a great break that will be! :balloons:

UofA has an certain number of places for aborignal students who make the min. marks. They are looking at very high science admission marks. I know someone who went this route because she didn't have the marks in Biology to get in first try as a mature student. They advised her to apply as an aboriginal student and she got accepted.

Several schools in BC have a policy of make min. requirements and have a complete application, you get accepted. So, if student A has c+ in everything and all references; she goes on the list the day she applies. Student B has straight A's but no references, her name doesn't go on the list until all the references come in.

And there is a long wait in Western Canada. If I chose to bridge to RN, there is a two year waitlist for one of the courses I need.

hmmmmm...I got into 3 schools in BC. Guess I was lucky??????????Sorry you have such a hard time in Western Canada. Everybody should move here. :)

I'll pass your advice on to my friends daughter. She's been told she's on the list for fall 2005 at NIC.

We have the same problem where I live. The waiting list for ADN programs is 2-3 years. I decided to get my BSN because I would finish before an ADN program. True it is more expensive but time is worth money too :)

I am a junior so hopefully a couple more years, still doing pre req sciences.

Good luck to all!

Does anyone know if Accelerated BSN programs are as impacted?

Yeah i have been in the "waiting room" too! :uhoh21: I have been all done with pre-req's for almost a year now, so i wait Wait WAIT! It is soooo dang frustrating. :angryfire I have applied a total of 4 times! I have applied at another school also, but it's the same story there. I can't even take extra classes to speed things up, i'm all maxed out.

I have thought of the LPN route too, but it's hours are like 60 hrs. a week, plus all school holidays (you know the traditional easter and christmas breaks) and summers. That doesn't work for me since I have 2 school age kids and a husband that's a teacher. Sooooooo i will continue to wait.

And what really twists my undies, is that those darn straight A students slip right in the first time they apply. I wish i was one of those, but noooooooooo.

So you are not alone achooo. Heather

Misery loves company right?

Actually at the program (ADN) that I applied to my 4.0 means no more than someone else's 2.5. Sad huh? The requirement is atleast a 2.5 and above that we are all on the same playing field:(

Good luck!

Tracy

I think it is fair to say as long as the admission criteria is met there will be no alternate selection based on gpa. You can be a great nurse with a 2.5 or a 4.0.

I think more emphasis should be placed on people skill, prior work experience. Just because someone aced high school doesn't mean they're entitled to the first available seat in nursing school.

I always think the waitlist is a selection tool. Those that really want it hang in.

Here where I live in the Bay Area there are about 4 programs close by. None have a wait list. You apply and you get in or not and can reapply the following semester or year. Most are based at least partly on GPA and the TEAS.

I agree with Tracy that it sucks when the person who gets a C in all prereqs gets in and the person with straight A's does not. So I will stay away from the programs that dont take into account my studing my tail off to make A's. The fact that someone did or did not ace high school is not relevant, its college courses that matter. So out of the 4 in my area I will applly to 2 since they go off GPA and maybe one thats all lottery.

By the way, they have done studies here at my present school and guess which students have a higher success rate, the person with a 2.5 or the person with a 4.0??
