I just got a letter in the mail informing me that that is how long the wait is now. I haven't gotten my number yet. What to do?? I have one pre-req left to go. Should I apply to the LPN program and hope tpo bridge in to the RN program later?? I do not want surgical tech, x ray tech or another field. I want ADN. So frustrating
Too bad Michigan has next to nothing in the way of LVN or LPN schools--I checked.

I might as well become a MA or CNA, which I don't really want.
I am checking into some of the schools that offer BSN degrees around here--but they are SO EXPENSIVE! I'm sure that's why the ADN program at the community college has SUCH a long waiting list.....
Ugh.
I hope what I am about to say makes sense. The tuition at the University I am getting my BSN at is almost 3X what it is at the community college that offers the ADN. I will have my BSN in 2 years. IF I were on the ADN wait list (not sure I would have gotten on it last year because I still needed pre-reqs) the best case scenario would be 1.5 years left on the wait list. It would most likely be 2 years on the wait list then at least 2 years to complete the program. I will have my degree in 2 years, whereas I would just be starting the ADN nursing program in 2 years. I figured that paying more for tuition is justified in that I will be in the workforce 1.5-2 years earlier than if I went the ADN route. I will make more salary in those 2 years than the difference in tuition. Plus, I CANNOT wait to be a nurse. I am one of those idealistic students.
My family is in Michigan. My first college experience was at Central Michigan University. My family is in the Detroit area.
Good luck to you!

Reading stories like yours just chaps my hide. Why can't some $$$ be invested from the facilities towards universities and nursing schools, instead of funneling it overseas to import nurses? Doesn't make much sense to me (an experienced nurse)
Good luck to you all and hope things work out for you all.

I know how you feel exactly. I won't be able to get into the program until Fall of 2006 which means i'll graduate spring 08!!! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But here is how I'm looking at it, it's only one extra semester (from my original plan), I won't have any other classes to focus on except nursing, I can spread my pre-req's out better and concentrate on not as many classes at a time and hopefully get better grades (grades are good now but I'm highly stressed). It's a really is a crappy feeling and lots of us are in the same boat as you are. Even if I went to LPN route to RN i'd still graduate in May of '08 so I am not going that route cause I know myself and i'd probably not go on cause i'd be burned out. Just keep looking towads the light at the end of the tunnel...hopefully..it will get bigger and brighter quickly.
Good luck!!!

This TOTALLY makes sense to me! That's what I talked to a counselor last night about.....a BSN at a university. I have 5 pre-reqs that I need to complete, and then if I get all A's and B's (which I have so far--I am a good student) then I will most likely get in that fall. So, take classes for this upcoming year, work part time, apply in May of 2006 and start in Fall of 2006. This is my plan.
I will STILL apply for the ADN program at the community college--but it's AT LEAST a 2 1/2 year list--so, most likely I wouldn't get in until, what, spring 2007 or fall 2007? That is insane.
Might as well get the 4 year degree. Yes, costs more, but I want to work part time anyway, and I have a wonderful supportive husband, mom and brothers. That means a lot to me. Plus, hopefully, with the BSN, I will make more $$ starting out in jobs.
I can't wait to be a nurse either!
It's just SO FRUSTRATING that this is America, and what I want, I can't instantly have! LOL! I agree with mattsmom81, we NEED more $$ pumped into these programs, to get people moved through and registered! I can't believe this nursing crisis is not being taken care of??? It's insane.....

Since the earliest I would get into the nursing program is next Fall 2005, I've decided to take a phlebotomy course through one of the technical schools. Then I can hopefully get myself an inpatient phlebotomist position in the hospital I want to work. I may then be able to get some tuition reimbursement. There are options.
And like MZachry stated...you've been accepted and it really is only a year away. So Congratulations!
I can understand your discouragement, but look at the bright side.....at least you have been accepted! :) :balloons:Are there any other non-nursing classes you can take before Feb '06? If not, maybe you could even take a foreign language or sign language course. Possibly take a class to learn phlebotomy. Keep your self motivated, and good luck in your nursing program.
