2-4 year waiting list?!?

Published

I just got a letter in the mail informing me that that is how long the wait is now. I haven't gotten my number yet. What to do?? I have one pre-req left to go. Should I apply to the LPN program and hope tpo bridge in to the RN program later?? I do not want surgical tech, x ray tech or another field. I want ADN. So frustrating :o

i don't understand it. i got into lpn school the first time (before that i had applied to and was accepted into an adn program the first time around which i had to decline the offer and go to the lpn school because i couldn't drive 4 hrs. round trip to the classes) and i'm no great scholar.

you folks need to come to tennessee. the only waiting lists they have are in the bsn programs.

i would love to go to tennesee, but i have a family here with pretty firm roots. i could get into the lpn program here, but i would have like 2 semesters of pre-req's for that, and by that time (supposedly :uhoh3: ) i should finally be in the rn program. i'm not sure why the programs are all packed up except rn jobs here pay pretty well, and there's new nurse/patient ratio's now so i think a lot more people are interested.

:angryfire Hi there,

I recently got my acceptance letter in the nursing program at Victor Valley College. I have to say, I wasn't happy! I don't start until Feb. 2006. I was not happy when I found out. Very depressed when friends called me and told me that they were starting earlier. Well, all I can do is wait.

I can understand your discouragement, but look at the bright side.....at least you have been accepted! :) :balloons:

Are there any other non-nursing classes you can take before Feb '06? If not, maybe you could even take a foreign language or sign language course. Possibly take a class to learn phlebotomy. Keep your self motivated, and good luck in your nursing program.

"

Are there any other schools around? I have other schools that are options, although I have to take MORE pre-reqs:angryfire I am so afraid of organic chemistry I'm even thinking BSN...gulp:imbar "

We have to take Organic Chemistry in the BSN program also. I had to take 2 chemistry classes, Organic and regular Chemistry. Part of the reason I chose a BSN program was that the wait was around 2 years for the ADN program. I will be have my BSN before I would have finished the ADN. Now that I am in the program I know I made the right decision. Where I go to school, there is no waiting list. If you don't get in, you have to reapply.

I JUST found out that the wait list for the ADN program at our local community college is TWO AND A HALF YEARS!!!

:angryfire

I am almost 26. So, waiting 2 1/2 years plus the school takes me to 31 years old when I finish!!!

I am so sad and mad right now.....I can't believe that we don't have enough programs for this shortage! This is AMERICA for crying out loud!

I have to see what else is out there. Do you guys think it's just the Associates Degree programs that have a long waiting list, or is it the Bachelors Degree programs also??

I am in Michigan, by the way.

Hello There!

Well, as you know, I mentioned that I got my acceptance letter and I have to way nearly 2 years as well. I start in Feb. 06' and we're not even in 2006 yet. I'm in HESPERIA, CALIFORNIA, and I applied at Victor Valley Community College here in CA.

As far as a bachelor's program. I know for a fact that CSUSB, California State University San Bernardino is not accepting anymore applicants because my friend went down there last week and the reps. told her that. However, this year, FALL 04' they made a new prerequsite to get into that program (Bachelor's of Nursing) and it's Bio Chemistry. As far as another acredited program, we have here LOMA LINDA UNIVERSITY. I'm guessing and so is CSUSB because it's so backed up here in the INLAND EMPIRE and HIGH DESERT that they will be the next institution that will have a waiting list as well. It's ridiculous! I don't understand how my school, VVC gets a lot of money for funding, but it's for like other programs offered at the school, but the Nursing program is shunned upon.

Hmm....too bad you weren't here where I am, because my school offeres a respirartory program for 1.5 years. That program is over shadowed by the nursing program and always has available room for new students in that particular program.

Thanks for the response!

Yes, pickings ARE SLIM here in MI. I will try other avenues, but I really wanted the ADN because I heard places around here will pay for you to get your BSN once you are working for them.

The Univ of MI is a great school around my area--however, the $$ issue, is, as always, a problem. :o

I will see what I can find out. I am not giving up hope yet!

Hesperia! I used to live out there in Victorville-many many years ago. When George AFB was there! You're 2 hours from LA, are you sure there aren't any other schools in the LA area you can go to? You may have to drive but, at least you'll get it done.

if you have all your pre-reqs done, you can always get your LVN while you wait. it is usually a one year program. Once you're done with that you "bridge" over to the RN program and you are placed in the second year. I would've done that had i known, but if i start the LVN program now, i'll be plum in the middle when i get accepted. (within the next 2 semesters)

Well, I checked some local schools that offered an LVN program, but talking to many officials they all said that doing the LVN program was cool, but they seemed that it was a waste of time. I mean, cool, if you need to work while in the program, or if you just want the experience. For me, however, the experience will come later as I'm in the program because I think nothing can prepare you for the nursing program. CNA and LVN work to me is an avenue that I don't wanna take. I work at Anchor Blue currently and they pay me very well for really doing nothing other than ringing at a register. I'm just going to wait for another year (06, FEB.). As I said before, there's still pre-req's for my bachelor's that I can register for. I need like two more classes along with Bio. Chem. I'm seeing a counselor about all this tomorrow.

Too bad Michigan has next to nothing in the way of LVN or LPN schools--I checked.

:o

I might as well become a MA or CNA, which I don't really want.

I am checking into some of the schools that offer BSN degrees around here--but they are SO EXPENSIVE! I'm sure that's why the ADN program at the community college has SUCH a long waiting list.....

Ugh.
