Who is GENERALLY more of a "PAIN"?: Co-workers OR Patients?

I know that there is trouble with BOTH sides.....but generally...which "group" makes your job more stressful?

The patients, or the other employees themselves? How so?

Patients= family, visitors, etc.

Employees= ANY of the staff

Work colleagues but only a couple of them (they are very consistent though). At least the patients are sick/injured/in pain -- people not at their best don't behave their best.

Now if the question was "Who is worse, patients or family members?". I'd say family every time.

Specializes in CCU, SICU, CVSICU, Precepting & Teaching.

you left out the obvious choice: visitors. they're far more of a pain than patients and co-workers combined! (and i've worked with some psychotic co-workers!)

i pick coworkers...

although i'm pretty sure it's me with the problem.

i just cannot overlook substandard nsg care, and go nuts when a coworker doesn't aspire to the same set of standards.

pts and families don't bother me.

sure, they can drive me nuts, but that comes with the job...

so i am psychologically ok with it.

just have never been able to accept avg or

Hard choice...I've got a couple of coworkers that are real doozies

Specializes in Telemetry, CCU.

If its any employee in the hospital, I'd have to say pharmacy in general trumps the annoyances of patients and families. It's not really their fault that they're under staffed, but it gets real old calling for the same things over and over again, finding medications transcribed incorrectly or just being late and behind on my med pass due to not having stuff. That's my :twocents:

I'd say 1 co-worker...work with good 1's but this 1 apple is spoiling the whole bunch...Time will tell... If I can hang on that long! CA DreamN......

Specializes in Operating Room Nursing.

I'm going to have to say co-workers. My patients are usually unconscious anyway.

Most of my co-workers are pretty good to work with. But we have a few who have very poor work ethic. Examples-leaving the room to answer their cell phone, not coming to work on time, having longer breaks than they are allowed that sort of thing.

OMG Patients!!

My co-workers save my a*s almost every shift .. but then I work in a psych hospital :rolleyes:

I like my coworkers, and even the ones who aren't perfect, I at least know what to expect. Properly handled, all but the worst can be of use to you.

A bad family is far worse than a bad coworker.

The patients are much more of a pain----I work in a psych hospital and some are pretty wacky and violent. There was a time when the biggest pain was a co-worker(no work ethic, passing gas intentionally--yeah that always blew me away how anyone could consciously do that--no pun intended-- then she'd laugh and walk away, saying "take THAT", being very insubordinate) but now she's long gone.
