Just out of curiosity: when you guys sign off on something or just put your name on a piece of paper, do you include all of the titles you have? Personally, I find it annoying when someone with an entire alphabet behind their name (normally MD's with all kinds of other Bachelors and doctored degrees that title everything and every class they've taken) writes it out on everything their name is on. Personally, I just put my name and then, RN - I don't include the BSN or CCRN or anything special like that.
When I'm signing a chart at clinical, I'll put my legal name (after all, it is a legal document) and SPN. If it's something in the real world like a credit card, debit card receipt, or signing a check, I just sign my name with no initials. Sooooo many times though I'm half tempted to add PITA to anything. When at work, all charting is computerized, so I don't have to sign anything.
Just don't ask me how many times I've signed 'RN' behind my first initial/last name on checks and credit card receipts after a wicked night at work ... :trout:
Dang, I thought I was the only one who signed LPN after my name when writing a check! Hard habit to break when you sign it a zillon times at work!
Yeah, that looks really stupid. Sometimes I think there's an inverse relationship between intelligence and the number of letters you stick after your name.
ROFL!!!
:lol2:
I know I have also had to stop myself from signing RN in everyday life. I do draw a line after my name as I would at work though! I found it really hard for the first few months after being an Enrolled Nurse to sign RN; kept putting EN and then have to correct it. 17 years of practice...hard to break the habit
Stacking credentials is obnoxious... I used to work with a PSYD who required DD patients to address her as Dr....
I have a friend who is working on his PSYD right now. He is seriousl considering going for his RN so he can introduce himselt to his Patients as I am Dr. K and your nurse for today....:lol2:

I haven't signed with RN in such a long time. When I worked in the hospital I used to do it all the time on credit card receipts etc. I will have to start to get back in the habit since I just took a new job where I will have to enter consent notes into the pt's MR but I won't be adding all that other silliness after my name. However, I do have the RN, BSN, CCRC on my name tag.
truthfully most of the time i forget to put lvn behind my name. i would imagine that after i graduate with my rn this next year i will still write lvn or nothing at all. i will also have a bachelors degree this next year and wont be listing those letters either. i did however, sign my kids report card the other day with txspadequeen lvn...lol

Wait...you guys can read the signatures (and what comes after them) in the Physician Orders/Progress Notes???
The docs I work with don't take the time to write legibly...not to mention wasting their time with alphabet soup after their name.
