Just out of curiosity: when you guys sign off on something or just put your name on a piece of paper, do you include all of the titles you have? Personally, I find it annoying when someone with an entire alphabet behind their name (normally MD's with all kinds of other Bachelors and doctored degrees that title everything and every class they've taken) writes it out on everything their name is on. Personally, I just put my name and then, RN - I don't include the BSN or CCRN or anything special like that.

Just my CNA currently, and when I become an RN, just that.

Yeah, that looks really stupid. Sometimes I think there's an inverse relationship between intelligence and the number of letters you stick after your name.
Personally, I don't even put MD unless it's something semi-official (workmans comp forms, school notes, etc). All my notes, orders, prescriptions all just have my last name.

Yeah, same here. I only put it behind my name when it's something related to my title (a note, paper at work, report, etc.). If I'm writing a letter to BestBuy I won't put it behind my name (I'd be to scared to let those people know I was smart).
I've always tried to go by the saying "impress them with with your care and not your degree".

Just don't ask me how many times I've signed 'RN' behind my first initial/last name on checks and credit card receipts after a wicked night at work ... :trout:

When I have honor and legal right to do so, I'll sign off w/just my name and RN after it.

Do you also answer your home phone with your work location? I do that a lot.

I only sign with LVN currently, when I get my RN, BSN I will sign only RN after name and only use it where it would apply(work). If I was teaching or something I would on the 1st day of class write it all on the board to show background I have seen when some one starts at the bottom and then everytime they advance they include the corrosponding title. I say only include the one you are using. I dont think degree is necessary on a chart though.

I'd also sometimes answer a unit's phone with a barrage of all the floors I'd worked, ending with "where the hell AM I???"
i used to float all the time, and i am so guilty of going through "thank you for calling ******* Hospital ER, err... ICU, no PCU... what floor are you TRYING to call?"
i don't usually sign NREMT-P after my name unless it's a consent or something. and i rarely write in charts, so if i type up a note, its already under my computer ID that says Allison (last name), NREMT-P. once i get my RN though, i'm not sure if i will sign both. probably not. too many letters.
but it really drives me nuts when doctors will sign Dr. Whatever, MD, FACG, FACS, FAOC, and whatever other fellow they belong to. ok, we get it!

Much depends on your state practice act. That is what determines what we sign. For instance, in IL, you must sign TraumaRUs, RN or RNC. As an advanced practice nurse, I must sign TraumaRUs, APN
I can add to this - for instance I still keep my CEN current (national certification) but I usually just sign the APN and that's it.
Have never ever signed any additional junk:
tee hee hee:
TraumaRUs, RN, MSN, CNS, APN, BLS, ACLS, PALS, ENPC, PEPP, PHRN. tee hee hee
I'd be needing a lot of more of those free pens the drug reps are always shoving on me!
