What specialty do you aspire to?

What do you want to do in nursing, how far do you want to go? I know personally I dream at night about my life as a bedside LPN, then (years later, after much education) as a midwife, etc. What do you dream about?

fourblessings...there are a couple of ladies on here going for pre-med that have just made the decision and one of them is 37 I believe! I don't think you are every too old and you might enjoy midwifery if OB was the way you wanted to go.

CNM2B- thank you! I guess I just 'feel' old...heehee...that is awesome a few other are going to pre med. I was actually pondering about CNM, what a fullfilling job that would be! :)

BSN. Critical care burns (I am a former burn patient). The only nurses who took care of me in the burn center were former burn patients. :)

Then after I do that I want to teach Bioethics at the college level (it ought to be required but isnt).

I have to take Bioethics my second semester for my ADN. As far as I could tell during my research, it's mostly only private colleges that require it. None of the CC's I looked into/applied to did.

I would love to become an OR nurse, in any capacity. Eventually, if time and money are no problem, I'd like to become a CRNA also. Anesthesia is fascinating!

i would love to start out working on a gyn med/surge floor, then eventually move to l & d...there's a part of me that really wants to be a cnm or womens' health np...sometimes i feel like it is just too late to get into that...who knows...i never figured i'd be back at school at this point in my life, so i am open to whatever comes along!

My goal is NICU. I'd like to work nursery/mother-baby for a while. I am working on becoming a lactation consultant.

I love babies. What can I say? :)

Labor and Delivery! I would love to work with new moms and their babies. There is nothing that could beat being there to hear a baby's first cry or to introduce a mother and child!:)

Okay, I have to be honest here and say that I am sooo torn. I am afraid that if I become a CNM or OB nurse that I will be jealous of the new mommas. This sounds insane, but I guess it's because I know I am done having children. Does this make sense to any of you? Anyone else sorta feel the same way? I don't want my possible jealousy to interfere with my treatment of the patient.

I used to think that I wanted to be a L&D nurse but now I am leaning towards PACU or ambulatory surgery. I really like the idea of getting pts. from the OR, waking them, and sending them home or to the floor. I am an LPN now and have done all the med-surg I want to for now. I eventually want to get my BSN and I want to do travel nursing when my kids are out of school(which is only 5 years away). That's what my plan is now but who knows it could change over the course of the next year.

I understand. :) Although I'm not sure that I'm done having children, I think part of the reason I want to be a midwife is so that I can continue to be a part of that special time. It's just such a passionate thing to me! In a way, I think I will be living vicariously through them! :rotfl: Anyways, I'm sure you will make a great CNM!

I'm graduating in Spring of 2005 from a BScN program and after a few years of honing my med-surg. skills and working as a clinic nurse for low-income and under-served urban populations, I want to work internationally. I have done a fair bit of international work so far and I know it's where my heart is. I want to get my masters of public health with a focus on peace and conflict studies and eventually combine community development work with health care delivery in the third world. I'm particularly interested in working in post-conflict situations, for e.g. building health care infrastructure in post-conflict situations, creating physical and psychosocial rehabilitation programs for the survivors, and training local people in health care delivery in communities that have been severely disrupted by conflict. This is my major life-long dream.

I figure that I will work MED/Surg for at least 1 to 2 yrs for the experiance then I will decide where to go from there. I want to get my Masters and am leaning towards being a nurse practitioner and since I have a backround in RT maybe cardiopulmonary would be good. Nursing has so many areas to choose from. I just want to be the best at whatever field I choose Rhonda
