  1. The 5 days has to do with whether the PT/OT/ST frequencies will be included on the 485. If those evals are not completed within the 5 days they cannot be included in the start of care and an order must be written to initiate these services. And thus the HHRG score is affected negatively and the payment may also affected.
  2. Thanks everyone, I appreciate it. :monkeydance:
  3. I am so excited because I have finally finished nursing school. We had our pinning ceremony last night and it was so wonderful. I have been a LPN for 18 years and after many trys I have finally earned my RN!!! (as soon as I pass the NCLEX). I also recieved the program directors award for having a 4.0 throughout the nursing program. Well I just wanted to shout it out, Gina :roll :mortarboard: :smiley_aa :yelclap:
  4. Hey Annie, I attend Valencia Community College in Orlando, Fl and our program is online except for clinicals. I love this program because it allows me to work, go to school and still have somewhat of a family life because I can study when I want to. In the begining of the program you do all of your skills in the nursing arts lab, some with peer tutors (upper nursing students) and some with the instructors. If you want more info go to http://www.valenciacc.edu Good luck in your pursuit, just becareful with Rue becuse it is extremely expensive and you can do the exact same thing directly through Excelsior College. Also some states are not excepting Excelsior Grads.
  5. I can totally relate with you. I start my rotation in 3/06 and also I just got a job on the Peds/Mother/Baby floor at the hospital. I have never worked in this field and I am nervous but also excited! Good luck with your rotation and the thing I am going to do is ask questions if I don't know what to do.
  6. I work at a 4 doctor retina practice. We also do FA's and PDT's and do office surgeries and I assist in the OR doing vitrectomy/membrane peels, RD repairs, etc... Our doctors won't let anyone else do the IV sticks for the PDT because if they blow they are responsible, not us. I like working here but do not feel I utilize all of my knowledge and the doctors do not respect us. Here in Florida Ophthalmic Techs make between 23,000-28,000 per year.
  7. I actually have started the nursing component of the LPN-RN bridge program!!! This term I am in Transitions into Professional Nursing for the first 8 weeks and then after spring break I will be in Maternal/Child (OB/PEDS) for the last 4 weeks of the term. I have just finished my first week...WHEW! At first it was a bit overwhelming but I am finding that as I get more organized it is getting better. The program I am attending has all of the nursing classes online and the only time you go to class is for nursing lab to check off skills or to clinical rotations 1 day a week. The lab is a bit intimidating because I have 21 skills that have to be checked off in 8 weeks! Once I get that out of the way I think I will feel better. :barf01: Well good luck to all this term and check in now and again to say how things are going for everyone.
  8. I am right there with you, I also start tomorrow and am nervous too. But at the same time I am excited to finally be on my way to finishing what I should have finished many years ago. Good luck to you and just take one day at a time, don't try to look at the big picture all at once. Have fun!!! :rotfl:
  9. I will be attending Valencia Community College in Orlando, Fl. I start on Jan. 9 and graduate Dec. 2006 Yea!!!!:rotfl:
  10. I have done my time on a med/surg unit, and I know I don't want to do that again! I think I want to work in a free standing ambulatory surgery center or possibly L&D. Unsure as of yet, but looking foward to the change!
  11. :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: I too am happy to have a "place" of our own. My name Is Gina and I have been a LPN for 17 years and have been accepted for the Bridge program at Valencia Community College in Orlando, Fl. I am so excited but nervous because it is a huge commitment! I know I can do it but still have some butterflies. Good luck to all!!!
  12. Congrats to you! I also recieved my acceptance letter this week and will be attending the LPN to RN bridge program at Valencia Community College in Orlando in the spring '06. I am so excited and nervous!! Good luck to you.

Nothing really to do about conjunctivitis because it is usually viral and will resolve on it's own, you can use the gtts but they probably won't help much. I used to work for an ophthalmologist and we saw it all the time, just make sure you wash your hands ALOT and don't share towels/wash cloths with anyone. Hope your better soon.
  14. Amen to that!! :chuckle
  15. I have worked in both settings, and I like both for different reasons. The clinic has great hours M-F 8-5 no holidays or weekends usually, but the pay is not as good as in the hospital. In the hospital the pay is usually better and you actually get to use your skills. So there is good and bad to both. Good luck! :)
