Yes- We do FA injections. We have two retina doc's and are very busy with them. They do OPT, laser, surgery and steroid injections. I do about 60-70 Fa injections a quarter and we have about 15 other RN's that do them also. Do you also do surgeries at your facility(buckles/vits)? Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi all- I am a new grad (May 04) and have been working at an Eye Surgery Center. Does anyone else out there work in this kind of area. We do retina, glaucoma, trauma, plastics, cataracts. We have 3 CRNA's that perform general and local anesthesia. I would be interested to hear from any of you. We have 11 surgeons and life can get a little crazy. We work 4 10s and are not open weekends or holidays, I never would have imagined that I would have gotten this job right out of school. Look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you very much for replying- I am sue that it is a wonderful part of nursing and I cannot figure out where I am supposed to be Perinatal or neonatal. I just hope God guides me to where HE wants me. Thanks again-Jenny

Hello all- I am a 4th semester BSN student graduating in May. I am doing a paper on a specialty area and chose obstetrics. I am hoping someone can clarify some info for me. It is my understanding that the BON in each state sets the scope and standards of practice for all RN's. Does AWHONN set the specific standards of practice for WH, O,and N nursing? If not who does? The information I found on additional certification is the RNC(inpatient obstetric and Matenal newborn) and CCRN(neonatal). I found the certificates in EFM and breastfeeding. Is there additional certification that can/must be be obtained. I also need some info on the roles and responsibilities that come with this specialty? Are you all required to have NRP or other l(like ACLS)? Are there any other obstetrical nurses associations besides AWHONN? I greatly appreciate any info you provide. Have any of you worked NICU and how do you compare the two in the pro/con area. Thanks- Jenny

I go to IWashington State University, college of Nursing in Spokane WA. I am graduating in May :)

I too had an NICU baby that prompted me to go back to school to be a NICU RN. You are NEVER too old to fulfill your dreams and to become a RN. I am in a BSN program and will graduate in May 2004, I have classmates that are grandparents. GO FOR IT!!! I think that an ADN (2yr) degree would be a great place for anyone, then if you decide later you could go back and do RN to BSN. Don't give up you can do it.

This is a great thread! So far I have only found 2 things that gross me out 1. Acsending colostomy in whic the pt had c-dif 2. 1500cc emesis of blood, no saliva spit or other...just the dark red stuff. It was quite possibly the grossest thing I have ever smelled..Yuck! I can handle sputum and most fecal matter but the c-dif colostomy was awful.

Hi everyone in A&P h*ll--- I know it is tough but you guys will make it. On the bright side of things you will actually use the stuff that you are learning in Patho/Pharm and Med/Surg. I know at times it can seem hopeless but there is a light at the end of the tunnel, just make sure that you look up once in a while to see it. Good luck everyone:) :) Jenny
