What do you want to do in nursing, how far do you want to go? I know personally I dream at night about my life as a bedside LPN, then (years later, after much education) as a midwife, etc. What do you dream about?

Actually, I really want to be a homebirth midwife. My plan to achieve that is to get my LPN, then head for the RN, and then perhaps my CNM, or an apprenticeship with a midwife. While I'm heading toward that goal, though, I plan to explore OR nursing and ER nursing, which I think I would enjoy, too. :)

BSN. Critical care burns (I am a former burn patient). The only nurses who took care of me in the burn center were former burn patients. :)
Then after I do that I want to teach Bioethics at the college level (it ought to be required but isnt).

One goal at a time, I would like to first get my RN and work in the ER or L&D maybe even peds. Then a couple of years later maybe do my BSN.

So many choices and my clock is ticking away at the wonderful age of 43! I would like to complete my BSN by September 2005. Since I have 20 years of Information Technology and I have been project mananger in healthcare, I have thought about informatics. I would like for that to be my least choice because I am tired of the IT field. Since I have a degree in biology and have always had an interest in "putting folks to sleep", I would like to pursue becoming a CRNA. If not, then women's health NP or educator!
I told you so many choices and not enough time!

To begin with, Labor and Delivery (although I have accepted an Extern job in pediatric oncology!). I will be returning for my MSN ASAP after graduation for a CNM.

My goal is to graduate to LPN-ADN-BSN. So far I think I'd be interested in L&D, LTC, Med-surg, school nursing or office nursing. :)

Labor and Delivery! I would love to work with new moms and their babies. There is nothing that could beat being there to hear a baby's first cry or to introduce a mother and child!:)

My dream was to be a doctor (ob), but I feel that I am too old to do that (isn't it, like, 8 yrs clinicals or something), so i am going to go for my NP license. Closest thing to it, right? :imbar

For those of you who have NO clue what route you want to take, let me reassure you that you're fine! I think it's healthy to go into the nursing school with an open mind. You can have your interests and preferences, but you will be exposed to many things that may change your mind. On our first day of class first semester, we were asked to introduce ourselves and describe our future plans. A good 85% of us have since changed our minds. Good luck all!
