  1. Hahaha Linda!!!! Do I know Alison very well!!!!!!! I love that woman!!!! And yes I have been to her meetings and spoke there last fall to all the potentials. I completed all of my prereqs there!! We must have met!! Katrin
  2. Hey there latenurse, I am actually a postpartum doula with Birth partners!! What a small world!!
  3. Hey everyone, I have year left in my ADN program but the planner in me is already thinking ahead. After attending the NSNA conference and learning more about the Army Nirse Corps Reserves, an interest has been sparked in me. Although I am not a us citizen but a permanent resident alien, I feel a sense of obligation to serve this county. I also grew up as an Army brat :) My question is this: I need to convince my husband that this is a good idea!! Help me guys!! What are the benefits for me and my family??? All I can see him talking about are the bad things, especially deployment. Before sitting him down for the really indepth talk I feel like I need to have good benefit comebacks. I don't live near a PX or Commisary so that dosent help :) Kat
  4. Hi Linda! Just wanted to say hi. I am almost finished with my first year at NVCC and am considering the reserves. I am also a permanent resident . I would be very interested in following you through your process!
  5. Hey there guys! I am a freshman at NVCC in the nursing program!! Email meif you need any info :)
  6. Where in CT do you live?? There are several programs out there that offer both ASN and BSN programs. I am in my second semester at Naugatuck Valley community college for my RN. Then there is Capital ASN St Josephs Bridgeport hospital school of nursing ASN UCONN BSN Goodwin college ASN Those are the ones I can thin kof at the top of my head. If you live in litchfield county you can take your prereqa at Northwester community college and they have an awesome transfer program with Naugatuck that will get you right in.
  7. In my 2year ADM program we will have med surg shared with OB in the spring.
  8. UGhh that has to be soo tough. I am taking my EMT I class and went into the ED to do IV sticks and found that 50% of the nurses were almost annoyed that they had to watch me. I can understand that they are much quicker and effient than I am but you know what??? They were where we are now at some point. I just wish that some of them would remeber that!!!
  9. Our books are about $650. If you dont have enough financial aid to cover the books, you have to find a way to pay for them unfortuntely!
  10. I am currently an EMT and also a part time registrar in the ED waiting for an ER tech opening,,,but it depends on different hospitals!!! The hospital I work in will take EMT-B's and train them or also CNA's and teach the phleb and EKG skills. Another hospital I am looking at requires you to be an EMT-I or CNA. A state hospital around here only has Medical Assistants with 2 years experience as techs. SO like it was said before it depends on the hospital!
  11. I work as a registrar part time in the ED and collection of copays goes like this: 1) We ask upon registration whether or not they would like to pay their copay at that time. We have both a cash box and a credit card machine to process payments. 2)During the hours of 9-5 M-F we have a financial counselar that also follows up on copays. 3) If the copay is not paid they are billed for it. I think the process works very well.
  12. Hey Cheri, Can you link the page that shows that you can begin after your first year? Thank you!
  13. Woweee how long are these sessions?????????????? If you are a new mom and think taking the classes online would be easier, it may actually be harder!!! I took A&P with Chem one semester and A&P 2 with micro this past semester and that was tough. I couldnt imagine doing all of that over the summer.
  14. Hello!!!! Fellow CT person here!!! I am starting the Nursing program at NAugatuck in August. I have heared mixed reviews about Uconns program. Some say that the 4 year program really gave them good academic foundation but they felt like they lacked something in the applications and clinicals. I had a coworker do the 1year bridge program and he said it wasnt too bad. All of the courses around the state are competative. Good luck in whatever decision you make!!
  15. I have to take that too this summer. I think I am going to get a dosage calculation for nurses work book to go over this summer to help.
