What field of nursing are you interested into going into?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I always wondered what fields of nursing most pre-nursing students were interested in. Most of the time, I hear ER or CRNA because they make the most money. Personally, I am more interested in the N.I.C.U and labor and delivery. What area of nursing are you interested in and why?

I'm interested in working in the ER or ICU. This will be my second career. I'm currently a veterinary assistant (going on 8 years now) and I've worked in small practices as well as specialty hospitals. I like the fast pace craziness in the ER. :D

 zzzzZZZZzzzz - huh? Hah? Oh!

Sorry - 3 a.m. here!

As for me - well, looks like I'm going to be taking the long way. CNA -> LVN -> RN, primarily so I can get (a) experience, and (b) moolah! Far as interest, well for me it's just one thing - hospice. It's a very special part of the nursing field, where you work not only with the patients, but their families as well. Having been through the process of losing a loved one recently, I feel that my having "been there" gives me a slightly different "take" on the field; here, it's not so much about sending them home so much as making their final months more meaningful and fulfilling. And, when they've left this existence behind, to help their loved ones to heal from their loss as well. My :redbeathe really goes out to these folks.

Other than hospice - working with the elderly has it's own appeal as well, and frankly just about any field has something good about it. About the only area I'd likely stay away from would be working with moms & kids - not so much because I have a problem with either one (let's face it, at family gatherings I'm invariably the one under a pile of young'uns - moms tend to appreciate me 'cause I'll keep the kids entertained as well as keeping an eye on 'em) but more because of the potential issues pertaining to perceived impropriety.

I can't wait to explore all the areas, and go with what jumps out at me.

I don't think I will choose psych, L&D, or ER. Certainly not pediatrics. Tentatively I am interested in surgery/OR, ICU,or geriatrics. I would also like to work with our nation's vets in a VA hospital since I am a vet myself, and it is close to my heart.

It'll be interesting to see where I end up.

ER, Cardiac, ICU....I have 0 interest in psych (more than likely due to the patients I have gotten as an EMT )

I think I would like to do ER, OR, pediatric oncology, or psych nursing. I know they are all different, but they are the ones I'm most interested. Hopefully, I can decide after clinicals.

I am most interested in the ER. I am interested in it for the challenge it provides.

i am really interested in or/surgery...i really think would be an interesting place to work..just finishing first semester of pre-requs, cant wait to get to nursing school!!!!

Specializes in CNA/LPN.

I'm really into ER Nursing right now, but I also have a deep interest in Psych Nursing as well. I'm not sure what field I really want to go into yet, so I'm waiting on clinicals to give me a bigger perspective in those. I definitely know I want to work in the ER for the good majority of my time, unless something changes. Psych is my second interest. I really want to work in the ER because of how hectic it can be and I feel I won't ever burn out working in the ER since a lot of the times, there are new/weird cases coming in. I know it can never get boring, neither can Psych, not in my opinion.

I know when I get older and am ready to have a family, I'll want to have less of a hectic work schedule, so I can definitely see myself working in Pediatrics in a doctors office somewhere. I had my major in ECE for a good amount of time, so I could definitely see my interest in helping children take over once I get down the road in my career.

Currently im a scrub tech in L&D..sooo my choice will for sure be L&D or the OR!!! =) cant wait!!!!!

N.I.C.U(MY DREAM!!!) or Orthopedics :)

As of right now, I am mostly interested in Pediatrics. I have considered NICU and Labor and Delivery however. Nursing is great because there are so many options out there.

Specializes in Cardiac.

I would love to work in a NICU. Its been my dream ever since I decided to become a nurse!! I want to go back for my master's when I'm done with my RN and specialize in children's critical care! Hopefully I'll be there one day.. :) I feel like I could really make a difference in people's lives and I thats why I chose to become a nurse!
