I always wondered what fields of nursing most pre-nursing students were interested in. Most of the time, I hear ER or CRNA because they make the most money. Personally, I am more interested in the N.I.C.U and labor and delivery. What area of nursing are you interested in and why?
How do you become a volunteer EMT? I would be very interested in doing that. I think emergency experience would definatly beat-out volunteering in a hospital gift shop and waiting for the right nurse/doctor/HR to walk along and hear my pleas for a job.

It depends on where you live. I'm in New Jersey and we still have a very strong volunteer EMS system on the BLS level. Nearly every town has a volunteer ambulance corps that you can join and go for the EMT training. Other states may have different requirements or may not even be volunteer.
Through my volunteer status, I already have contacts in nearly every hospital in my district. I'm hoping these contacts pan out when it's time for a job and the experience can't hurt, right?
I love the idea of someone being so interested in hospice. It can picture it being a difficult field to work in and can see professionals shying away from the field due to the heart ache so it is so nice to someone who has the compassion to be there for the patient and the family when they need it the most.
Why, thank you, ma'am! As for me, well, the "rubber hit the road" last Sunday - one of my patients (I volunteer at a hospice) passed on. His wife wouldn't let me in the house while he was alive, but now she wants to meet me in person - go figure.
So - we'll be getting together sometime next week. If anything, this'll be the hard part for me - having to relive my experiences in order to help her through hers. But, that's part of why I'm interested in hospice!:redbeathe

Im most interested in school nursing, working in on a college campus, hospital, or community center educating my peers about public health and soial justice issue is my dream (i.e. i also have a BA social work degree) Woring with children, labor and delivery would also be like a secondary direction but i am also open to new areas as i go through nursing school.
Wow! Its too early to tell for me, I think. I am interested in maybe doing OR, oncology, home health, hospice, case management and aesthetic (NOT CRNA) nursing. :)
A dream job of mine, would be to open a Med Spa of mine and perform facials, peels, laser treatments, botox and fillers. Or, work in a dermatology or plastic surgeons office doing the above mentioned. I already have a license in cosmetology and love the idea of combining Beauty with Medicine.
Wow I never thought you could do that but I always wanted to open up my own spa but never knew what that had to do with nursing...well good luck to youand let us know how that works out for you...I'm definetly interested!!!
Yes. :) You'll find a wealth of information on aesthetic nursing on allnurses if you do a search on it on here.

My whole reason for getting interested in going to nursing school is because I want to be an IBCLC. I realize that you don't HAVE to be an RN to be an IBCLC, but it opened my mind to a whole new career path. The more I read (hello AN stalker/junkie LOL) and learn about the world of nursing, the more excited (and open minded!) I get. I realize that nursing school doesnt open the door right into LDRP like I dream in my mind, but that's ok with me. I'm ready to see where this whole thing takes me LOL I neeeeeeed a life change and for once in my life, I am sure about where I'm supposed to be going! What a good feeling!

I always said that I wanted to work in L&D, but I think my feelings have changed. My 11 year old daughter had a spinal fusion in June and I fell in love with that floor. (orthopedics). The nurses were nothing short of amazing. I also realized that this is one of the parts of the hospital where you most likely get to see patients getting better. I feel like you see the healing process. They come in helpless, but end up walking out smiling. The nurses were so nice and attached to my baby that they added her on facebook! I absolutely loved it.
