Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I always wondered what fields of nursing most pre-nursing students were interested in. Most of the time, I hear ER or CRNA because they make the most money. Personally, I am more interested in the N.I.C.U and labor and delivery. What area of nursing are you interested in and why?

I would LOVE to work in labor & delivery! Thats my dream.. Maybe even be a midwife or lactation consultant one day?? :))

I want to work oncology, or anything with pediatrics. NICU.....Those are my thoughts for now anyway.

Forensic nursing, ltc/geriatrics, public health, hospice. So far - I imagine that school/clinical experiences may open my eyes to other adventures.

I'm interested in mental health and pediatrics. Of course, I may change my mind once I start clinicals!

I'm thinking about a few different areas. The top of the list right now is NICU, L&D or a Burn Unit. Possibly Oncology as well. My father just got diagnosed with a rare form of HL so my curiosity in that field has been raised exponentially.

One of the main reasons I am pursuing a nursing degree is so I can become a psychiatric nurse or a forensic nurse. I also wouldn't mind going into L&D or geriatrics.

Specializes in Emergency Department.

No peds units for me; I already know I don't do well with pediatrics. to those who can, though! It just gets to me in a way that adults don't; all of the kids have my kids' faces on them. I end up a wreck.

Having worked at the ED and loved it, ED is on top of my list. I'm also interested in the ICU.

I'm willing to keep an open mind, though.
