How sad is the NICU? Is there a personality type best suited to it?
You definitely have to have tough skin and you shouldn't be an overly-emotional person. You will see deaths, but you'll also see babies that survive and you are able to know that you helped in that.

The nurse does all the work--while the doctor makes all the money?
Yes it is very true. That happens in a lot of fields. Take denistry. The person you see most (hopefully) is the dental hygienist; however, they are paid less than a dentist who handles the more severe cases.

Any tips with smells? Please!!!
From what I've heard from many people is that you just get used to it, simple as that. Over time, the smells won't be as bad and you'll be able to handle it...maybe not even notice it anymore.

I don't hear back until late-March! The wait will kill me. I'm so nervous about it

What field of nursing are you interested into going into?
As of right now, I am mostly interested in Pediatrics. I have considered NICU and Labor and Delivery however. Nursing is great because there are so many options out there.

Wondering teenager
I would have to agree with babyRN. There are plenty of capable applicants that are trying to get into the nursing field, so I would suggest not taking one of those precious spots, especially if you are dead-set in being a doctor.

What Made You Decide on Peds?
I'm thinking about different nursing options for myself and I am very interested in pediatric nursing. I love kids, but I'm nervous to be around unhappy kids that are sick and do not want to be in the hospital/doctors' office. So my question is for all the new/experienced nurses: Why did you decide to pursue a career in pediatric nursing? Thanks!
