  1. Ya I'm out lookin in Yukon and all of Canada. I competed my RPN and OR course in Ontario and now looking for work... I'm just not very sure how my CNO license will work in other provinces?
  2. I am aware medical advice can not be given. im just seeking if other nurses have had family members in a similar situation? and if your willing to share.. and im not expecting any movement during coma induced. He is supposedly able to walk. unsure of his vocal cords and his breathing is unstable. I am praying to God for the best recovery possible.
  3. A close family friend of mine had a very tragic accident. He was riding his bike and fell a few feet down and broke 2 of his cervical vertebrae doctors said if he wasnt wearing his helmet then he wouldn't be here. Surgeons said that there is a chance that he may not make it through the surgery and the possibility of being a quadriplegic and stroke. I feel absolutely heart broken and so much sympathy for the family i cant even imagine how i would feel/react if it was someone who was close in my own heart. The surgery was to last 4 hours but took 7. there were a few complications along the way, there is a possibility that his vocal cords are severed. he is in ICU, induced coma. its day two now. not much of an improvement, flutter or eyes and minimal upper extremity movement Im praying and believing he will make it through healthy. Anyone else have a similar story to share? advice?
  4. That's right! And that's so wrong and pathetic on both of there parts! And fact that there married! *shaking head* .
  5. Here's mine, nothing too special but a pt on my floor has dementia, depression, and learning disability. Well I come on my shift and he's already pacing, going into others rooms, ******* in corners and what not.. andlet me add this older man is like 6'2 and hefty but a just a big baby. Anyways as all this is going on he is consistently cry and moaning/screaming. I go to give him a pain killer and see that the news paper I gave him to help distract him was all in his mouth! With the staples in it just chewing away! I grab a Kleenex holding it near his mouth and tell him spit it out! He grabs the Kleenex from my hand and shoves it in his mouth and starts chewing! Other pt's just busted out laughing!!!!!! I couldnt hold it in an had a few giggles.... but no worries I got the paper out of his mouth.. lol!

  9. I am aware of second hand and water resistances. what are the brand names of these watches that you wear?
  10. Im looking for a watch that I can wear for work. I cant seem to find one that I like. I would like one that can work great in an OR setting. What do you guys wear?
  11. LOL! WHAT IF YOUR OWN BO SMELLS! then what! LMAO! I find that when i have an empty stomach its much harder to deal with smell, suctioning, dressings etc... so maybe if you keep your fuel levels high you'll be good
  12. im on the same boat. new grad working in a new location for 2 months. know my stuff but am always always on my toes.. dont get me wrong I Love my job, but some days are just hard.. and the public dont see that. they think we have so much time and are there for everyone.
  13. Is it just me or do other people feel that nursing is sometimes very hard. like we need to be on our toes all the time! med/orders/ transcribing, etc.. like one SIMPLE SLIP and something will go wrong or be reported. I guess when working i have to keep in mind to calm down, stop rushing through things just to get them done. Im sure 99% of us have felt this way sometime through our career.. what has helped? what hasnt? and what do you tell yourself when your feeling down and overwhelmed? Thank you everyone
  14. Thank you for all the comments and support everyone. After talking on here and with some friends i feel that i should have approached the nurse on my own about this and talked about it first before reporting. well what is done is done. all i can do is use this as a learning experience and know for next time.. 15. hello everyone, i want to share something that has happened to me today in my LTC. I was giving my morning meds to my patients who were in the dinning room and im outside the dinning room with my med cart. Down the hall I can see the other unit where the other nurse ( much older and experienced then me) was also with her med cart giving medications. Anyways, im at my cart and i turn to look at the nurse where i can hear her raising her voice at a pt. ( this pt does not speak english but is cognitively aware about her medications but chooses not to take her meds and pretends to take them as i have worked with this pt myself before.) then i see the nurse slap this pt on her arm. this slap was not a full "swing" but enough of a slap where it was not considered acceptable. i was shocked, and a pt who was next to me at this time looked at me in shock also. then the nurse noticed i saw and tried to defend herself by saying she didnt take her meds, she pretneds she does etc.. i responded in a normal way that i know how she is, ive had the pt before. ( i should have intervened then) after this happened I felt what the correct action was to tell my supervisor about this incident. ( im feeling that im a "rat" and i hate that. but i know that if i didnt speak up i could loose my license. i didnt only speak up beacuse of that but also becasue it is wrong and that nurses represent care and should not act out in such a manner) anyways long story short i went to my supervisor who told me to go to my ADOC ( Assistant Director of Care.) i spoke to her and she was disappointed also and said that that was abuse and said she must speak to that nurse about this. i feel like this stuff happens more then i think in health care, just no one says anything.. Also, i feel that i have less of a chance of getting a full time position now due to this. feedback about this would really help. Thank you for reading.
