  1. My orientation is 12 weeks! At least I have that going for me.
  2. I never post anything on here but here ya go. After a week of classroom orientation, I will be starting tomorrow in the ER. I'm kinda terrified. So if anyone wants to be a well-wisher, please tell a new grad good luck!

I'm with you. I just graduated and will be starting in a large ER in two weeks. I was an ER tech for 3 years while I was in nursing school but I know this is a whole new cup of tea!
  4. I'm actually starting at a large teaching hospital in the ED and was told my orientation would last 12 weeks.
  5. I have a bone anchored hearing aid (BAHA) in my right ear. I am microsia and atresia of the right ear so basically it's looks like a baby ear... My left ear is normal with 100% hearing. I have a littman lightweight and just use the left side. It's a little tough but I get used to it. I'm upgrading to the littman cardiology iii next paycheck!
  6. Hey everyone! I have a bone anchored hearing aid (BAHA) in my right ear. I'm in nursing school and work in the ER as an admit clerk/ER tech on nights. If I cant hear something, I just ask them to speak up! If there is a will, there is a way! Don't give up.
  7. I'm 6'2'' and wear them. I love 'em. I wear them for school, but I'll occasionally wear them if I have to work the floor as a tech at work. Mine are all white so they're ugly as sin but my feet love me for them.

I start PRCC's ADN program in the spring, I have two friends at USM's nursing program. They don't hate, but they don't love it. This whole not hiring ADN RN's is a farce. It depends on where you live, some bigger hospitals might try to enforce it but no rule has been set in stone. It's just like the MSN vs. DNP thing they've been saying for years. Don't put too much stock in it.
  9. I think I would like to do ER, OR, pediatric oncology, or psych nursing. I know they are all different, but they are the ones I'm most interested. Hopefully, I can decide after clinicals.
  10. I have microtia/atresia of the right ear with a moderate to severe hearing loss in same ear. I also have a BAHA hearing aid (screw in my head) and am starting nursing school next semester. I play the piano and organ and have sang in several operas. Don't let your "disability" make or break you. Most people hardly notice that I have a little ear. I'm a little nervous about the stethoscope issue but I'll figure a way out. I've already let my nursing school about my disability and they took that into consideration when they accepted me into their program. I try to make it not obvious when I can't hear someone, usually I just switched sides so they are not on my bad side or I just ask them to repeat what they said. Keep me posted how you are doing and I'll do the same!
  11. I just got into an ADN program and their clinical uniform required list is a page long. We have to wear white Landau button up (or the professional jacket for us guys) tops and white pants (or knee length skirt for the girls) with white shoes (must be leather and or leather look alike). We can get a white lab coat - mid thigh length. We have to have maroon stitching applied to the sleeves and our logo stitched to the front left pocket. We have to have a watch with a left hand. On lab days, we have to wear khaki pants, our white clinical shoes, and a maroon shirt that says Pearl River ADN Program. It's pretty strict, but no complaints here.
  12. I just got accepted into the only ADN program I applied for. I start in January, woohoo!
  13. I applied for the local community college's ADN program for this upcoming Spring. Took the NLN a month ago, still waiting to hear results from that. But the director called me the other day to ask a question about my application, so at least I know she was looking at it. I won't know anything until the second round of NLN test takers take their test next week. And then I should definitely hear something...
  14. shout out to all the Pentecostal nurses!
  15. I'm taking the PAX-RN in two weeks and I've found some websites with flashcards and various quizzes. I would just Google it. I hope that helps.
