What to do about DNP and flu shot?

Nurses General Nursing

Updated:   Published

I am finishing my MSN soon, and had thought that I would get my DNP. However, I am second guessing this after a big ordeal from my school about me not taking a flu shot. My hospital does not require it if I wear a mask. I hate to put the time and money into getting a DNP, and at some point be required to take a flu shot to work in nursing. I WILL NOT. I will change careers. I’m not looking for pro flu shot comments here. However, I am looking for advice and useful information on what you think the future holds in this matter. I also have an MBA, and can just as easily go into a DBA program.

This article references a large study demonstrating a 630% increase in influenza viral shedding by vaccinated individuals who have received the flu vaccine compared to those who had not received the flu vaccine.

If I was a patient and new my nurse didn’t get a flu shot I’d refuse that nurse. ESP if I was in the ICU or had some chronic lung disease or immuno suppression. Idk why anti Vax people go into healthcare. It’s a free country to do what you want but putting patients at risk to feel like a special snowflake is sad.

suprised the physicians don’t raise a stink about it. I bet if the pulmonologist knew you were A festering antivaxxer they would oust you from the unit

Ive never gotten the flu and my patients truly love my care. Multiple daisy award winning nurse here. And my crit care docs are very pleased with my level of expertise and recommendations. When you are tubed and vented, wondering if i got a flu shot is the last thing on your mind.... and if anyone asks im "allergic"

Until you drag it into work one day unknowingly.

IDK why people are so against the flu shot. Pharm companies would make more money if more people actually got the flu not less. It’s fine if you don’t want vaccines yourself but when you work in healthcare and some have them. Lolwut

1. This doesn’t mean what you think it means.
2. Read the actual study and don’t be a sheeple.
3. It is not a “large study”.

Great. Put your VENT patient at risk. You bet your butt if my family member were on a vent, I'd be VERY interested to know the nurse's anti vax beliefs and vaccine status.

I’ve never gotten a serious case of flu either but I still get my shot which may have prevented several from being bad cases from happening.

I’m sure most people 65 never got pneumonia I guess they shouldn’t get their pneumonia shot right lol

Who is protected more from flu viruses, the person who gets the flu shot or the person who doesn't get it and/or people who are sick? If only the healthcare workers get inoculated with flu vaccines, how are they really protecting patients from people like family and friends? Do nurses make sure that those visitors show proof of current flu shots when they visit their loved ones? That is ridiculous to attack certain group of people like only nurses and other staff circulating the patients.

The way I understood it, the flu shot receivers will be protected or lessen problems associated with flu viruses if people catch those flu viruses.

The Flu shot is not mandatory for everyone because it's still an option. I'm not anti flu vaccine. I didn't do it for patients in the past. It was for me to cope with a new environment. I took other vaccines for protection from potential threats.

I'm just throwing what I have observed how people can have a tunnel vision against people who aren't accepting it, and how hypocritical that is.

That’s the scary part......

healthcare workers taking advise from natural health blogs. Do you drip essential oils into their IV lines too?

I honestly don't get it because they use derivatives of aborted baby fetuses to culture the vaccine. Look up Dr. Stanley Plotkins deposition last year.
