When do you start school ( date)? Are you planning to buy anything that could help you in nursing school, if so, what? I just want to buy a voice recorder.
Fall semster starts August 25th. I am not looking forward to it---I need more vacation time.
Y'all just made me even more excited about starting classes! I thought I was the only one that was so anxious...After graduating from IU 5 years ago, I never would have thought nursing was for me..... but I start school on Aug. 23.... I still need to get my Titers tested and get a TB test.
And I still have so many supplies to get - white shoes & socks, scrubs/uniform, steth., sphyg, goggles, watch, newest drug book, etc.
And I am thinking about getting a new laptop.... I think toshibas are on sale for like $300ish somewhere....
Where is everyone attending class at? I'm going to Ivy Tech.
You are on top of it!My orientation isn't until August 19th. (I was also accepted to an LPN program and their orientation was in June but they didn't start until August.) My acceptance packet for the BSN program didn't have a handbook or a list of supplies or anything. Just what we needed to do as far as proof of immunizations & TB skin tests & CPR certification and the insurance we have to take out on ourselves. I guess we'll cover it in orientation? I'm feeling sort of uncertain now!
Starry midnight - I don't know if your school has specifics on the type of CPR - but my program specifically requires American Heart Association - Healthcare providers certification.
Sorry if you already knew this - just trying to help.
I was going to purchase a flash drive but what is this Google notes so I don't need one?
Go to google and create a GMail account. They have a program for registered users called "Google Docs". Its basically a version of Microsoft Word, but you can access it anywhere if you have internet.
So if you're at home and type up a document on Google Docs, you can just save it and then when you get to school and use their internet you can log on to your GMail account and access the documents you saved.

I am attending the University of Arkansas- Fort Smith.
I haven't purchased ANY school supplies for the fall yet I need to get out and take advantage of the back to school sales right now.
I start on Aug 18th. It will be my first nursing semester. All my prereq's are finished.I'll be taking:
Fundamentals of nursing with lab
Health assessment with clinicals
Pharmacology
Health provider level CPR
I'm very excited to be doing this...you see I'm doing this with my daughter! We were both accepted. :)
Wow, that's really great! It's a built in study buddy. Plus, when your daughter gets that overwhelmed "I want my mommy" feeling, she'll actually have you! :)
I have orientation Aug 11, and classes start Aug 16.
So far I have taken care of my physical, most of shots, and did the online portion of our orientation.
Still need to get my books (waiting on check from my Dad, I am 36 and wanted to do this all on my own, but he was insistent on helping, as I will be the first on his side of the family to get a college degree.)
I am waiting on getting my supplies (i.e. pens, notebooks, folders, etc...) until Aug 6 when Illinois has the tax break for school supplies. It is driving me nuts waiting though! I think I have spent more time browsing online at Office Depot than browsing nursing websites, which is saying alot!
I already have a netbook as well as my home computer. I have several flash drives laying around, but think I might go with google docs, as I have a bad habit of misplacing things, especially small things. I just found out that we will be getting these handheld remote voting things, kinda like the audience gets in that Millionaire show, to answer questions in class. Sound cool, but I am already nervous about losing it!

I start on September 7!
Another alternative to a flash drive or Google Docs is Dropbox. You can store any kind of file you want in there, and can also share files if you are working on a group project. I think Windows Live also has a similar service, but I'm not sure if you can put any file types in there.
So, I kept checking my schools website for textbook info but nothing was listed. I decided to email all of my instructors and ask them what the names/ISBN numbers of the books were. Two of the teachers responded (I have 3 nursing instructors). The health assessment instructor told me that the book for his class would be used in my foundations class as well, "Fundamentals of Nursing" by Taylor. But he told me to contact the foundations instructor for the ISBN number because he didnt know it. Fine, no problem, I had already emailed her anyway. When the Foundations instructor finally replied to my email she told me that the instructors arent allowed to give students the ISBN numbers. WTH!?! She gave me a link to the book stores website and told me to check there to order my books when they arrive. But I had specifically stated in my original email that I wanted the ISBN numbers because I DO NOT want to buy anything from the bookstore due to cost.
Obviously my school isnt following this new law regarding students right-to-know about textbooks. If I didnt live out of state, I would have physically gone to the school and gave them a print out of the new law and demanded the book list.
But anywho, I went to the books stores website, called, and asked the nice young man to give me the names of the textbooks for my classes so that I could order them on Amazon. He was nice enough to give me every book title and author name(but didnt know the editions). I went on Amazon and ordered all of my books and just got the latest edition of everything since I wasnt sure, if its not right I could just always return them but Im sure it wont be a problem.
Sorry so long, just had to vent, LOL...

I don't know why they have to be so anal about it. School is ridiculously expensive and if we can save money by ordering books online, then we're going to find a way to do that. I spent about $200 on books for my first unit and I know if I bought the books in the school bookstore, I would've spent at least twice that amount.

September 8, 2010, though we have a skills lab prior to this & orientation on September 7.
EDIT: Wow seems like I am the latest to start here! Go figure. I am a BSN but have previously almost completed a degree in Biochemistry. Biochemistry degree was very rigious and hoping that it has prepared me.
As for supplies, I am pretty poor. I bought all my books online and perhaps spent $400 (bookstore books would have cost upwards of $900-1000, which I can not afford). Some of my books are slightly older editions or used. One is even missing the first 18 pages. I am proud to say that I have excelled in all my classes with these types of books and will do so this year as well. I am re-using notebooks, pens, pencils, and other materials I found or was given by family and friends. Using my 4 year old lab top. I was going to purchase a flash drive but what is this Google notes so I don't need one?
