So long as this is not only happening to you, and each nurse is taking his/her turn as the CNA for the day, I say look at it as a learning experience. If you ever transfer to a hospital that doesn't have CNAs (or has one CNA to 30 patients), knowing how to bath/change/reposition a patient and change their linens/get them up in a timely manner can come in super handy! It's just skills practice :) And the bonus is, you can do a thorough assessment at the same time.

You might want to look into what experience is required for CRNA school. Most schools require that you have a couple of years of ICU experience. As an ICU nurse, you're going to be dealing with a lot of poop. Frankly, not matter what area of nursing you go into, you'll be dealing with a lot of poop. ICU nurses typically do full patient care though because their patients are so delicate and anything can happen at any moment. I remember one of the days I spent in the ICU during nursing school, my preceptor and I spent most of the day cleaning and re-cleaning a patient with C-diff. ICU nursing is a whole different animal. It's a huge amount of work and a huge amount of critical thinking. And the reason you need this experience is because you'll be working in the role of the anesthesiologist, which is a huge responsibility. You'll be responsible for monitoring the patient's response to anesthesia and the surgery, and you need to know what subtle changes in their status to look for. I don't want to discourage you from following your dreams, but just know that it's going to take a LOT of hard work to get there, and it's not all going to be pleasant. So, I guess the question is: do you think you'd be willing to put in the hard work of being an ICU nurse for a few years before going to CRNA school?

Hi Ladies, I was also a Regis alternate for the Traditional BSN and got accepted!! So don't give up hope yet. :hug: I would say to go ahead and apply for other programs just in case. Also, consider applying for traditional programs in addition to the accelerated. You may have a better chance since every one with a prior Bachelor's degree is looking for a career change in this economy. Plus, you may like the pace of the traditional better. Whatever you do, good luck and keep your chin up!

Hi there! I think that it wouldn't hurt to email your dean and ask if there's any possibility of another assignment. If you already worked your first med-surg on that floor and you actually HAVE A JOB on that floor, your dean would understand your request for some more varied experience. However, I wouldn't bring up the fact that other students have complained about the instructor because then the dean might say tough noogies and leave you where you are. If there isn't a possibility for a switch, then I'd talk to the instructor and let her/him know the situation and that you'd like to be "farmed out" if possible. Just because other students have complained, it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the insturctor...maybe they were just pushing everyone harder to learn :) Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

My BSN program starts August 30th and I can't wait! I've gotten almost everything I need including scrubs, stethoscope (Light Blue & Fairy Ultrascope!:redbeathe), shoes (black Danskos), huge planner, etc. I haven't bought my books yet since they just started releasing that info yesterday. I'm definitely going to compare the prices on Amazon though because I am all about saving the $$$. Orientation can't come fast enough!!! Good luck to everyone!

I have nearly the same question. I'm starting school at the end of August and I'm considering the Cardio III for it's adult/peds versatility. I'm also looking at the Ultrascope Duo for that same feature. I like the Ultrascope because it's a bit easier to personalize (I've heard the how easily steths can get swiped). Does anyone have experience with both and prefer one over the other? Thanks! :)

Hi Summit, I'm in class of 2012 as well! Just got accepted from the alternate list and I couldn't be more excited! I've been researching stethoscopes all day and am having a very hard time deciding on which one to buy. This forum has really been a big help on narrowing it down though!
