What caught your attention in the world today?

I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news.  I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

According to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.

Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.

The arrested the guy the next day.

What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

I wonder if she thought the pandemic was a sign from God.

She's wrong.  Obviously,  the earthquake is a result of climate change.

Ummm ... not so fast. I've been wondering for a while what effect the melting of very heavy ice covers on the underlying geology might be. Don't think anyone is studying it so far. Geological time being what it is, it'll likely be a while before we can rule climate in or out as a contributing factor.

Ummm, if we can throw out speculative "I wonder" theories about a increase in earthquakes (is that even true?) being caused by water covering small amounts of the earth that were previously dry, then maybe we shouldn't be mocking MTG's theory.

I totally agree. One never knows until we get slapped again.  This past Friday I volunteered as the cat spaying clinic.  We tied the record for number of cases in one day(48).  The vet said that global warming has caused cats to go into heat earlier so we had a number of cats that were already far along in pregnancy.  Global warming is..well...global, affecting us in ways we don't know about yet.  I wonder if the magma layer gets even hotter.  That doesn't seem to be reassuring.

The ice caps melting would produce very cold water.  That cold water seeping into the earth would obviously cool the magma layer.

Of course MTG's theories should be mocked.  She should know better.

You and @NRSKarenRN in order to make your point seem to want to group together ILLEGAL  immigrants and those who are here lawfully. Maybe there is no distinction in your view?

No.  The point is cities shouldn't have to spend all these resources on ILLEGAL immigrants.

Immigration reform is a seperate issue.

What doesn't make sense about detaining those caught entering illegally?  I asked that question a few days ago, and no one has ansewered.  And, per our laws we can detain asylum seekers as well.  Maybe we should be detaining more of that group.

Right now most are being processed and set free into the US.  Remember when you used to see video footage of illegals entering and trying to hide or escape from the Border Patrol?  Now,  they surrender voluntarily.  Seems like detainment would dim our welcome sign quite a bit.

There isn't anything chaotic about our laws when it comes to what happens to those caught entering illegally.  The chaos has resulted from not following the law,  and instead welcoming illegal immigrants and those with bogus asylum claims into the country.

The children being separated and then not reunited was a major mess up.  I'm all in for doing it better and making sure it doesn't happen again.

Speaking of chaos, btw, going back to the Trump years in these threads and maybe further back, I said a few times that elected Democrats actually want chaos when it comes to the border.  It seems we have plenty of evidence in the Biden years to back up my claim.

100% of those who entered illegally are criminals.

The point is they once were proud to call themselves sanctuary cities.  Now, for obvious reasons, they are trying to fool the public and shed that term.

I don't agree.  I don't want to lump immigrants together, but that's exactly what happens when poorly trained and poorly resourced local or state police begin acting as border or immigration officers.

I don't agree with your point.  It's a matter of opinion and perspective as to whether or not it is too much of a burden for cities to support immigrants living within their jurisdiction.  Certainly, those cities could have more funding to ease any burden they experience if congressional Republicans would do their jobs and pass reform which increases their funding.  We can detain more of any and all groups which should be detained if congress would pass legislation that increases the funding for adjudication and housing.

Baloney.  You know as well as I do that our immigration laws are outdated and not meeting our needs.  Please don't be disingenuous simply to maintain partisan differences.

100% of those immigrants who over stayed their visas are guilty of a misdemeanor, just like the people who walked across the border.

That's your opinion of why the term "sanctuary" isn't being used.  It's consistent with your general disdain for the philosophy. Thanks for sharing.  I already posited an alternative consideration.

If it's not been studied then she shouldn't be making that claim.

Not sure there is evidence of that.  But anyway, I don't think they should be acting as immigration officers.  But, they should be able to inform ICE that they have someone they're looking for.  And should honor detainer requests as they do for other agencies.

Of course it is.  And, now even many "welcoming cities" are now saying they are overburdened.

So, your answer is to increase funding so we can catch up on processing the illegal immigrants and provide them housing and other resources?  Keep the welcome sign lit and shining brightly.  Not to mention screwing over those who entered lawfully.

How about funding for keeping them out in the first place and detaining the ones who tried and were caught?  And, for detaining the asylum seekers?  You know, like the bill Republicans passed a year and a half ago.

I didn't say no reform was needed.  When it comes to those who are arriving illegally right now and how to treat them, what laws are oudated and need reform?

What's your point?

Those who entered illegally can be detained and if found guilty can be sentenced for up to 6 months.  2 years for repeat offenders.  Is this happening?  Why shouldn't it be?  Is there some kind of reform you think is needed in regards to this?

Are you talking about that "welcoming city" sounds nicer?

Gov Polis didn't even offer another term.  He just flat out stated we are not a sanctuary state.  Why do you think he said that?

Your article actually is throwing cold, melted ice cap water on the Dem candidate's and Heron's theories.  Not MTG's.
