What caught your attention in the world today?

I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news.  I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

According to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.

Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.

The arrested the guy the next day.

What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

I mock Marjorie Taylor Greene, but I suppose she should be allowed her opinions in relation to her faith.  Safe in DC and her corner of Georgia there aren't many natural disasters but it's a long held belief that such things are the wrath of God (until it happens to them).

I remember an old story, not sure if it's true, that there was a battle taking place and a total Eclipse happened and they took that as a sign God wanted them to stop fighting (I.e. repent).

I clearly remember Hurricane Katrina being caused by New Orlean's sins.

Hurricane Katrina damaged the city of New Orleans in what seems like biblical proportions. Some say the human suffering alone could be a part of God's plan.

Reverend Franklin Graham, son of Reverend Billy Graham, suggests the city was targeted because of the city's sinful reputation.

At a speech in Virginia, he said, "This is one wicked city, OK?  It's known for Mardi Gras, for Satan worship.  It's known for sex perversion.  It's known for every type of drugs and alcohol and the orgies and all of these things that go on down there in New Orleans.  Reverend Graham continued, "There's been a black spiritual cloud over New Orleans for years.  They believe God is going to use that storm to bring revival.

Your article actually is throwing cold, melted ice cap water on the Dem candidate's and Heron's theories.  Not MTG's.

I didn't intend the article to dispute MTG's nonsense.  It's commonsense that her rhetoric on the topic is nonsense.

The article was included simply to provide something beyond opinion about the question of how the climate and water affect seismic activity.  We're learning a fast as we can.

If it's not been studied then she shouldn't be making that claim.

Agreed. That wasn't my point.

In fact, I believe I read (sometime in the distant past) that such low-intensity quakes are more routine than we realize.

Actually, I'm more intrigued by the question of  what will happen as the permanent ice sheets continue melting. I wonder whether the relatively sudden release of all that weight might affect volcanic activity.

None of which is relevant to this thread.

Carry on ...

Honestly, this thread is a general subject thread.  Whatever catches our attention.

It caught my attention yesterday that Republican Mike Turner admitted that congressional Republicans repeat Russian propaganda when in interviewed on CNN.

That's a start in our battle against the propaganda. Will he be attacked by the right?

People have long prayed around courthouses and capitals around the country, this isn't new.  But praying on the Senate floor in Arizona and speaking in tongues is a bit much.

There's a link to the video in this article.

Their prayers must have worked because since then the Arizona Supreme Court allows the near-total ban to go forward.

It kind of looked and sounded like they were looking for attention.  That's somewhat contrary to what their Holy Book tells them to pursue in their prayer lives.

The right wing extremists seem to be getting out over their tips, in the skiing world that rarely ends well. It looks like lots of people will be motivated to go to the polls in the fall as their state Republicans try to force women to accept 19th century reproductive health care options.

One of the largest donations to Rudy Giuliani's legal defense fund is at the center of a new lawsuit that argues the $100,000 contribution rightfully belongs to victims of an alleged online fraud scheme.

The donation by Matthew Martorano in September accounted for nearly 13% of all the money that Giuliani, the former attorney for Donald Trump and onetime New York City mayor, raised in the fund.

Quote

The fund was intended to help Giuliani pay for lawyers in the Georgia election interference case — where Trump is a co-defendant — and in a civil defamation case that Giuliani lost, brought by two Georgia election workers.

But the plaintiff in the new civil suit — filed after CNBC reported on Martorano's donation earlier this year — claims that $100,000 flowed from Martorano's participation in an alleged online skin care product scam. They are seeking "to unwind" the donation to Giuliani.

It's almost like you can count on the corruption.

It is time to revisit the tax rates for the wealthiest among us.

What does this story have to do with how much taxes the wealthy pay?

Therock have too much money to use influencing our government and judicial system.  They can even afford to throw away money to defend the indefensible.

No, your logic is flawed.

Flawed in many way, but once again, I'll go for the low hanging fruit

According to the plaintiffs of the lawsuit, the guy defending the indefensible got the money to do so by scamming others.
