I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news.  I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

According to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.

Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.

The arrested the guy the next day.

What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

Sylvester Stallone's wife Jennifer Flavin files for divorce after 25 years marriage.  Fox news says he's worth $400 million; she filed in Florida which has 50-50 split, no taxes, supposedly no prenup.

???Texas has a new law that public schools must display privately donated posters with the phrase “In God We Trust”. The law includes the requirement that the poster must include the statement, with the national and Texas flags centered underneath and nothing else.

A Florida’s activist has started a gofundme drive for posters to donate to Texas public schools that strictly follows the law … in Arabic.

Did any of you catch this article by David Frum in the Atlantic last month?

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/07/trumps-america-first-speech-revealed-a-plan-for-power/670963/

Yet scrape aside the audacity, the self-pity, and the self-aggrandizement, and there was indeed an idea in Donald Trump’s speech at a conference hosted by the America First Policy Institute: a sinister idea, but one to take seriously.

Trump sketched out a vision that a new Republican Congress could enact sweeping new emergency powers for the next Republican president. The president would be empowered to disregard state jurisdiction over criminal law. The president would be allowed to push aside a “weak, foolish, and stupid governor,” and to fire “radical and racist prosecutors”—racist here meaning “anti-white.” The president could federalize state National Guards for law-enforcement duties, stop and frisk suspects for illegal weapons, and impose death sentences on drug dealers after expedited trials.

Much of this may be hot air. All of it would require huge legal changes, and some of it would require the 6–3 conservative majority on the Supreme Court to overturn established precedents. You should listen to Trump’s speech less as an agenda of things to be done, and more as an indication of the direction of Trump’s thought.

Quote

The Trump Republican Party faces a strategic problem and a constitutional opportunity. The problem is that under Trump, the Republican Party is a minority force in American life. The opportunity is that an ever more unbalanced federal structure can enable a minority party based in many small states to control the majority population that lives in fewer big states. Abortion rights are one area where Republicans can use this opportunity, but that is not an area that especially interests Donald Trump.

I think that too many republican leaning voters have been conditioned to accept this slide toward fascist rule.

This is an interesting turn of events.  Thank goodness people are interested in history. As an aside, it's similar dedication by history driven weavers and craftsmen that resulted in the very authentic clothing used in the series "Outlander".

The governor also appointed four Republicans to replace the suspended board members. He now has named five Republicans to the board, after appointing a member in April to fill Ms. Osgood’s former seat. The board has now shifted from being run by nine Democratic women to having a majority of Republican men. Electing conservatives to school boards has been one of Mr. DeSantis’s priorities this year, as cultural battles in education have become key to G.O.P. political campaigns.

This is an interesting conservative phenomenon.  Authoritarians eventually control everything, conservative voters are making a big mistake.

Promoting His Memoir, Kushner Offers Tortured Defenses of Trump https://nyti.ms/3CC6Be6

Quote

During Mr. Trump’s term, Mr. Kushner, a political novice, stepped into the public eye when he wanted credit on an issue, like criminal justice reform or the Abraham Accords. But he receded into the background and evaded responsibility when it suited him, such as when he departed for the Middle East while his father-in-law refused to concede the 2020 election and tried to use the Justice Department to remain in power.

In videotaped testimony to the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack, Mr. Kushner made clear his disdain for some White House officials who tried to steer his father-in-law away from unlawful efforts to overturn the results, saying that he considered threats by the White House counsel, Pat A. Cipollone, to resign as “whining.”

Quote

On Wednesday, when asked on Fox News if Mr. Trump made a mistake in taking classified documents with him to Mar-a-Lago after leaving office, Mr. Kushner stepped carefully.

“President Trump, he governed in a very peculiar way,” he said. “When he had his documents, I’m assuming he did what he thought was appropriate.”

Mr. Kushner has condemned the F.B.I.’s search of Mar-a-Lago, saying on Tuesday, “It just seems like what they keep doing is breaking norms in their attempt to try to get him.”

I thought that last part was funny.

Trump breaking norms (and apparently laws) is good but when breaking norms is projected onto the FBI, it's bad.

He's not a very convincing story teller.

Speaking of CRT, DeSantis signed a Florida state law that makes upsetting white people illegal. Applies both to public schools and at places of employment. It’s tied up in the federal court right now, but in could go into effect at any time.

Tweety lives in Florida. I wonder if he’s OK.
