I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news. I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

QuoteAccording to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.
Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.
The arrested the guy the next day.
What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

Perhaps Republicans are convinced that publicly mistreating these people, who may someday be voters, will benefit the GOP in the long run. Or maybe they are abusing them for short term political goals...
What's clear is that the republican politicians are more interested in political points than they are about appearing cruel and indifferent to the needs of vulnerable people. That speaks volumes over and over.
Did you hear too that: 2 busloads of migrants dropped off near VP Harris’ DC residence which is a Naval Observatory instillation, not near Union train station where previous buses have dropped off migrants seeking assylum.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott tweeted that he’d sent the buses that arrived Thursday: “We’re sending migrants to her backyard to call on the Biden Administration to do its job & secure the border.”
Per Fox News report, the buses were filled with up to 100 illegal immigrants from Venezuela, Uruguay, Colombia, and Mexico who were picked up in Eagle Pass, Texas; group included childresn. Fox News informed of this political stunt as had TV coverage but not groups that could assist these individuals. Just shows Gov. Abbott lack of compassion to human beings.

Yes.
The authoritarians are showing their true colors, campaigning with clear and unequivocally cruel treatment of immigrants and refuges...to elevate the emotional support of their devoted followers. I fear that not enough republican voting Americans know enough historical context to understand what is going on and exactly how dangerous it is.
Maybe they'll prove me wrong.

We are at a time in history where clearly people seem to have no respect for other people’s lives and sometimes not even their own . So if ever there was a need to show some sense of solidarity and human compassion, this is the time.
They received free transportation to a migrant-friendly, sanctuary city. That sounds like a great deal to me.

I'm sure they aren't complaining. But you and I both know the intent isn't to make life easier on the illegals. They are being treated like cattle. In fact it makes it harder to deport them. That there is an election soon and Republicans are extremely concerned about illegals is also not a coincidence.
I hope it backfires. DeSantis who is quite intelligent is going to have to answer why he used state money to fly people from Texas to Mass. But like everything he does, he gets a lot of publicity and gets his moment. That he's up for re-election is no coincidence either.
I guess he knows his supporters watch the endless immigrant coverage on Fox News, but he might not realize most of us are more concerned about rising insurance costs and housing costs, flood insurance and the like. Immigration is hardly spoken of.
He says Florida is not a sanctuary state, but the people were in Texas.....and Florida is a sanctuary state if you're Cuban at least. They vote Republican so they are okay.
From the governor of Mass. "Massachusetts will warmly accept migrants who need shelter, beds, a warm meal & child support. We’ll treat them with dignity & respect, not cruelly like DeSantis. He’s become the face of a party that’s not only selfish & mean but morally bankrupt as well."
One thing Daisy said about birth control being widely available I think is true. Although there are "contraceptive desserts" of people without access.
Demand for contraceptives apparently went up 300% in some doctor's offices. Also vasectomy interest is on the rise.

Apparently some people even object to the "morning after pill". Really we have to give people a chance to correct a mistake, a rape, or irresponsible ejaculation, and make the morning after pill available and access to the poor to contraception.

QuoteThe worst thing about the state of the culture wars is that it requires us to formulate opinions about things that absolutely do not deserve them. Exhibit A is Disney’s forthcoming live action remake of The Little Mermaid. By all accounts, this isn’t really a film that deserves to take up a lot of anyone’s brain power. It’s an old story, retold using technology that will date much faster than traditional animation, and in any other age it would be in cinemas for four weeks, gently fizzle out and never be thought of ever again.
But this is 2022, which means we have to wade through all the racists before that can happen. For the latecomers: The Little Mermaid will star black actor and singer Halle Bailey as Ariel. And, with an inevitability that could crush your bones to dust, a segment of the internet has reacted poorly to this.
The movie isn't even out until May 2023. I heard about it because there's a facebook Group called "Arial is White"
I just can't.....

Our senate candidate running against Murkowski would ban "the morning after pill" and wants to amend the state constitution so that women's privacy can be violated to protect the unborn.

No, they aren't complaining. And none of them are forced on the buses or planes. They are happy to go. So, the 'treated like cattle" comparison falls flat. Much more humane then creating the chaos that motivated them to come in the first place. There have been something like 8000 known deaths in the last 22 years of migrants trying to cross the border. Approximately 1300 of those since Biden took office.
DeSantis already done a good job of explaining why, and it's a relatively small cost vs what it'd be if those folks made their way to FL. Little political damage to be done to him. The only people who hate it are those like yourself who hate him already. The migrants are wanting to go, they are treated well, so other than hating him what reason do you have for it to backfire?
There are a variety of motives for transporting them. Much of it is indeed political, just like the Democrat motives for letting them come.
I would say the Republicans have done a good job of showing how this influx of migrants uses up resources and disrupts communities. The mayors of DC and Chicago have complained about how they are overwhelmed by this tiny number of migrants transported to their cities.
Interesting no one has corrected your use of "illegals". I'm quite sure it'd happened if I had used that term.

Fair enough, and I didn't mean they were being treated inhumanely or being forced against their will like cattle, but they are being shuffled around.
Like I said, even though they aren't complaining you and I both know that Republicans aren't not doing this to make their lives better. I also am not buying into left wing rhetoric that it's "inhumane". (I'm also sick of Republican candidates and Fox News saying "Biden's open border policies...")
I know they are saying they are doing it for the border communities because Biden isn't helping them.
I would even take a look at a policy that allowed this with a systematic plan to relieve overwhelmed border communities, not randomly select Democrat cities and states at their whim. Indeed the situation is overwhelming for some communities and it's a tough burden.
I did use the term "illegals" when "undocumented immigrants" might have been better. You're right you might have been called out by the PC police for that. But I'm always willing to learn and maybe change...maybe.

His "let's send them from Texas to somewhere else so they don't come to Florida and use up our resources" is mean spirited at worse and just unnecessary at best. About 20% of Florida's population are immigrants not to mention 150,000 seasonal workers. By announcing Florida is no longer the place for immigrants is a political move that doesn't make much sense. Seems like it might be harmful to our immigrant dependent economy such as construction and farming. I've read a figure that close to 50% of immigrants lean Democrat in Florida. Again, he's not stupid and knows this.
DeSantis has made clear who he wants coming to Florida. Not the tech industry...too woke. Not the film industry...too woke. Not immigrants, and he's more than once stated this and has fought with Biden over Biden's inability to handle the border effectively.
Finally I don't hate the man. To answer your question why I want it to back fire is because I want him out of office. I'm realistic enough it won't happen.
I've complimented him many times over the years, including his intelligence. I give him props when he deserves it. I especially had plenty of good things to say about him his first two years. I don't like that he's, to me, and this is my opinion because he has widespread support (even his quietly flying the undocumented immigrants to Mass. is met with a "meh" and little opposition even if widely covered in national news), is that he's gotten a bit too extreme as I feel a lot in the party has gotten the past few years. This is why it might seem like I hate him because I do talk about him negatively a lot more lately than I have in the past.
