Vanity Plates?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Random curiosity propelled me to create this post.

Have you ever seen anyone driving in your town, city, or highway with those license plates that state, RN, PA, NP, MD on the back?

What do you all think about that? Is that something you would consider doing?

What benefits could you see from doing it; or do you think the negatives of having one of those plates outweigh the positives?

Why would you, or why wouldn't you get professional vanity plates?

Specializes in Clinical Pediatrics; Maternal-Child Educator.

There was an immunologist/allergist I knew with the tag AH CHUU.

I personally don't go in for them. I don't want to waste the money, but I don't fault people who do. I actually enjoy some of the clever ones.

Specializes in Med/Surg, LTACH, LTC, Home Health.

I'm not into vanity plates. Can't be bothered to spend the money. But I did see a good one in Red Deer, Alberta several years ago.

I was interested in getting the RN tag for my state, but after I realized the truth about being an RN and the business of healthcare, I no longer wanted the tag.

Kind of changed your perspective, huh!

Specializes in Psychiatry, Community, Nurse Manager, hospice.

Benefits:

Maybe cops won't pull me over.

Drawbacks:

I don't always want people to know I'm a nurse.

I don't care enough to do it and I hate buying things, so I just wouldn't.

I don't have a true vanity plate (personalized), but I have the Indiana "Be a Nurse" license plate design for my vehicle. I can think of on incidence that it prevented me from getting a ticket. I passed an unmarked state police car. He speed up, pull up behind me, flashed his red and blue lights for half a second. Once I slowed down, he pull into the left lane and drove on. I used to have an Indiana EMS design plate many years ago. My ex-girlfriend borrowed my car to take to work for a week and was pulled over twice for speeding and was only given a warning each time. I believe that there is "Professional Courtesy" between the police and Nurses/EMS.

I've got the Indiana RN be a nurse plate as well. I haven't been stopped in ages, not sure if it's the plate or not.

Or they THINK they are.

The first hospital that I worked for paid the $25 for us to get the plates, and the yearly cost. I just continue to do so because the $25 extra in Indiana goes to nursing scholarships at state schools

That just makes me think of the "ASSMAN" license plate episode of Seinfeld ?

I would probably consider it if the money went toward nursing scholarships in my state. That's actually a really good idea.

Nope never. First of all, they will (correctly in my case) assume I am female and possibly attack me. Or I carry drugs with me. And my life does not revolve around my being an RN.

Specializes in orthopedic/trauma, Informatics, diabetes.

I have a vanity plate but it is about the music I love ?

It is a University plate for the school/hosp I work for and went to school. #oldhippie
