Vanity Plates?

Random curiosity propelled me to create this post.

Have you ever seen anyone driving in your town, city, or highway with those license plates that state, RN, PA, NP, MD on the back?

What do you all think about that? Is that something you would consider doing?

What benefits could you see from doing it; or do you think the negatives of having one of those plates outweigh the positives?

Why would you, or why wouldn't you get professional vanity plates?

Can’t really imagine not wanting someone to know the car belongs to a lady...?? Half the cars on the road belong to females, right?

The comment was in response to having an RN vanity plate being a safety issue for them.

Okay thanks for the clarification. I’m just responding to the post talking about “female safety” in big bold letters. But I understand what you’re saying, people might think you’re carrying around narcotics or something.

Nope. I don't want to pay the regular costs of tags, let alone the extra fees of announcing myself. I just go with the basics and enjoy being anonymous on the road.

I can't stand vanity plates. I don't advertise that I am a nurse on my car either. I dont want people knowing that I am a RN.

Cringe, please no. The same reason I will never get a "Veteran" plate.

Im a vet and I get the veteran plates. I don't consider them vanity plates though. When I think of vanity plates I think of some cheesy word.

Yes. Agree. Now “KimK” would be a vanity plate seen around Calabasas CA.

Got pulled over 4 days ago. The cop asked where was I headed. I'm in full uniform, badge and all, as I say I'm on my way to the hospital. He said, "be right back". I have a clear driving record. He came back with the darn ticket and instructions on when and where to pay it.

If not phased at all by the actual person wearing the uniform, I seriously doubt the plates would have made a difference.

Actually, I believe it’s being identified as most likely a lone female. Although it may seem harmless, you never know who is out there. I would never put anything on my license plate that identifies me.

Thank you for your service.

And re the veteran plates, I have actually stuck sticky-notes under windshield wipers just to say "Thank you for your service". And that's it.

I think Gold Star Mothers also have specialty plates.

I started checking out the fees, initial and renewal. Some states are OUTRAGEOUS! In NJ, specialty plate fees fund special causes, like our Pinelands, wildlife, agriculture, our USS New Jersey Battleship, ORGAN DONATION, etc. So I can understand those plates.

But personal vanity plates or professional plates, nah... except maybe for the clergy.

Those guys with all the stickers on their rear window "Vietnam veteran" and the like makes me embarrassed to be a vet. What do they want, people to show gratitude or something? If people find out you're a vet and thank you great! But for god's sake don't go and ask for it!

No what's embarrassing is when fellow vets display their rank or their specialty on their car. There is nothing wrong with vets being a proud Vietnam Vet since some of them had no choice but to go and how they were treated when they came home. There is also nothing wrong with them displaying which branch they served in.

I haven't decided if the hats are worse than plates LOL. For WW2 and Korean War vets I make an exception, they can do whatever they want!

Plates for Purple Heart recipients & Pearl survivors are esp recognized here as well as the one vet I met whose cap merely read the USS Indianapolis.

I got goosebumps when all I could mutter to him was "you were on the Indianapolis?'. His quiet answer was only a 'yes'.

Goosebumps again.
