Using Your Nursing Credentials to Validate Anti-Vaxxer Theories

As nurses we are supposed to understand and follow science. Yet all over the country nurses are using their background to validate crackpot theories about Covid and the vaccine. Should there be consequences for leading an effort to hurt the public health? After all, it violates basic nursing ethics in particular, do no harm. Should boards of nurses sanction these people or should the ANA or other associations put out a statement saying these folk don't represent us?

Let me explain it in a more simple way. Wearing a non N-95 mask to stop the spread of the virus is like using a garden hose to put out a house fire. The water from the hose will cool down a small area and not stop the spread of the fire to the rest of house.

Yes but it makes a difference in that area (maybe saving something important) while you wait for the fire department to come. NOBODY here is suggesting that masks alone are sufficient. A point you conveniently ignore everytime it is brought up.

If you have ever fought a house fire you know that garden hose will not make a difference on the size of the fire and not save anything.   As a matter of fact could get the homeowner killed because they are too close the fire. 
 

You say that I ignore that what others say about mask, if you read their post most are saying that a mask is our savior.

If your entire house is on fire, I'd agree. But if your waste paper basket is on fire, would you try and put it out or just let it engulf the house? A garden hose might not put out a house fire but it could easily prevent one.

No I said you are ignoring what others, myself included, are saying about using multiple layers of protection. Instead, you are dismissing a simple and effective way of mitigating the spread while also misrepresenting what others are saying. Please quote any poster here who is stating that "a mask is our savior".

Your characterization of what most of us are saying about masks is wrong...the question is are you intentionally misrepresenting the communicating or are you not actually understandingwhat is being communicated because of some other issue?

What do house-fires and garden hoses have to do with masks and viruses? Yes I did read the comments but c'mon... Tenuous and stretching for a metaphor at best.

There are also physicians who promote misinformation, such as america’s frontline doctors. I don’t consider (most of) the anti-vax folks to be stupid, simply misguided. However, that misguidance is having a toll in lives, directly through those choosing to not vaccinate and indirectly through those not able to receive care d/t the first group.

Why is it that everyone including physicians are called misguided if the do not follow the government narrative and look at all the data and come up with their on conclusion. If I guessed I would say 75-80% of the surgeons & doctors I work with say that the mask mandates do not work and they are not too sure about the vaccines.

I’d say 100% of the physicians I work with say mask mandates work and they are absolutely sure about the vaccines. But these are er, ICU, specialists & hospitalists, so what would they know about covid and science?

I'd say 100% of the infectious disease specialists and virologists I work with (one of the areas I specialize in) would say that masks, mandates and the vaccine all work. But what do they know? After all they aren't surgeons.
