REMINDER!!! The deadline to submit your Fall application is nearing. As of now, the deadline has not changed from February 2 (short of 4 weeks away).
This is my second time applying--I was wait listed for the Spring term. Currently, I am studying to take my TEAS exam again on January 27th. This exam was the only portion of my application I was not confident in. I scored a 70% without refreshing my memory on key concepts by studying before hand. I did find the test to be a "you either no it or you don't" kind of thing so from personal experience--STUDY!
I have no outstanding prerequisites and my sciences are as follows:
AP1. -- B
AP2. -- A
CHEM -- B
MICRO -- A
I had the privilege of chatting with the last group of students and found this forum to be quite helpful! Please use this post as a way of communicating, sharing experiences, and giving advice. Hopefully, we will be classmates in the Fall!:)
Hi everyone. Wow wow wow, you guys are amazing. I've been reading the thread, and it looks like alot of you are in absolute tip-top shape for the program! Nothing to worry about, guys. Really! Most of the stats I've read here so far are much better than what mine were. You guys are going to be a really smart group. ;^)
So, like someone said earlier, it is out of your hands now. However, you can start to get a head-start in preparation for your admission (because I am absolutely sure I'll be seeing some of you on campus next semester). Even though acceptances haven't been given out yet, I suggest you look at every single corner, every single PAGE of the UMSON website. Also, get a good look at the Accepted Students page and the checklist here, so you know what will be needed of you once you are admitted. I know this seems like looking too far ahead, but believe me, when you ARE admitted, you will know EXACTLY what you will need to do from there! :) Get ahead before it even begins! Also, go fill out the in-state tuition form. I know some of my classmates this semester did not do this prior to admittance into the program and had troubles submitting it afterwards. Here is the form!
I'd also like to tell you guys about the program so far...
I'm at the Shady Grove campus, and let me tell you, it is an absolute gem. What a nice campus! The parking is free, the food is GREAT (try the mashed potatoes), the bookstore is stocked and ready for your sugary impulses. There is ALOT of walking to do, though. If some of you are regular exercisers, you won't have much time to exercise anymore. In this case, I would advise you to take full advantage of the stairs throughout the day. There are stations where you can refill your water bottle with filtered water. A meditation center in the fourth floor of Building III. A cafe, a nice parking garage. I can go on and on!
The people you meet here on the thread and on the Facebook group after you are admitted will be your support group for the next two years. I'm so glad to have met my fellow allnurses pals from my UMSON Spring 2015 thread in real life. Although we've only been at it for about five weeks, we all have bonded so well and can depend on each other. You all will experience the same... I'm so excited for you guys!!!
Let me tell you about the Facebook group. When you are all admitted, you will get an invitation to a closed Facebook group. Do not start one for yourselves, just wait for it. I cannot tell you how invaluable it has been so far. Wow. In this group, you will interact with staff, upperclassmen, and of course, your fellow classmates. If there is ever any confusion among you, it will be brought up in this group and SOLVED. I know some of you might not have Facebooks, but this group is absolutely essential if you want to always be updated on what your fellow classmates are saying. You might not have a question in mind, but your classmates will and in the discussion, you will find out something that is crucial for a good grade in an assignment. So, non-Facebookers, just create a dummy Facebook account with an alias and join. You will thank me later! Really! (I really mean it!)
Okay! Now, about the classes. Assuming you all will be under the same (new) curriculum, you will be taking five classes; 310, 314, 316, 317, and 319. The material is quite a lot, but it is doable. Just do not, DO NOT stress about it all! You do not want to do that haha! Whenever you're in a knot, step back, breathe, and do something else for 10-30 minutes. Though, I'm sure all of you know this by now though, seeing as you had to take A&P and Chemistry. Also, if you are stressing about it or are struggling with a paper that will be due, the campus has so many services to help you succeed. You'll see in orientation, of course. ;^) But I cannot stress this enough: the services on campus are so wonderful. Take full advantage of them! (And the filtered water!)
Gosh I can't think of anything else... But I'm so excited for you all!!! Like afowler77 said before me, this process is fresh in my mind. SO, if any of you need help, please PM me or ask me here on Mimi3's thread because I am more than willing to help you all get in! I will make sure to tune in at least once a day so I can help you guys out. (Got my password for allnurses saved this time haha!) Oh man. You're going to love it at UMSON!!!
katiep_123 I'm actually between classes right now! Everything is going well. We just went through our first week of exams (three of them whew) last week, so we're more relaxed now... You guys will love NURS310. You learn relaxing techniques to help you cope with stress, worry, and other non-nursing, social things while working.
PinkEagle, I actually cannot distinguish who is in the CNL program when I walk around on campus. So I'm sorry, I haven't been able to find or talk to a CNL student yet.
to aspiringnurssedd, my professor was willing to send another recommendation, and i notify the admissions office that he would send another LOR. they received and accepted it, and now my application is complete and ready for review.did everything work out for you?
OOps sorry didn't see this ! See above :)

I also applied to Georgetown, but not going to pursue since they changed to a a MSN. I was upset when they changed it after I had already sent everything in, but oh well. UMSON is my first choice anyway, and I can't really afford Georgetown tuition.
