I got wait listed also. Have a Bachelors in another field, getting my associates this spring with a 3.9 GPA, and 4.0 science GPA, 80.7% on TEAS. Good luck for everyone else! Not quite sure what the plan will be for me...

Rosie43, May I ask what your GPA and TEAS score were? You don't have to say it here if you dont want to lol, just curious. I'm still waiting to hear if I got in or not.

I know EXACTLY what it is like to look younger than your age, and as a male, it is even worse. I am constantly talked to as if I were a teenager. I am turning 31 in May and people constantly think I am 19 or 20. This is nice outside of the workplace, but when at a job, people do not take you seriously. I had one job where the head of the company literally said, "Who hired an 18 year old?!" Without looking at my qualifications or credentials, I was already looked as an incompetent person. Anyhow, only those like us can really truly understand how looking young is a disadvantage in the work place.

I also applied to Georgetown, but not going to pursue since they changed to a a MSN. I was upset when they changed it after I had already sent everything in, but oh well. UMSON is my first choice anyway, and I can't really afford Georgetown tuition.

I am also a male, and looking to get into nursing. I have applied to University of Maryland for fall entry and waiting to hear back to see if I got in (fingers crossed!). As a nurse (male or female), I feel you should help your fellow nurse out if needed. Especially if there is a 400lb patient that needs to be moved. Take your strengths, whether it be knowledge or physical, and help others out. I feel that nurses are those in the "trenches of medical warfare," we must all be there for each other as best we can. If you do not want to help with lifting a patient or cleaning up bodily fluids, then don't become a nurse. The patients who are ill in the hospital, and the nurses caring for those patients do not need you.

I am currently in school to pursue a career in nursing, and reading all this is very concerning. We can comment on here all day, but why don't we do something? Make a plan. We know the problem, now it is time to organize and find a solution. I do not think politicians will be of much help, most of them have ties in with the industry. So what is the next step? Where do we gather all nurses across the country, and NOT only talk amongst ourselves, but to the patients, to the people, to the country.

How about a documentary? An inside look at the system, from a nurses perspective. How many would be willing to be in on this?

Just checked and saw that too. I doubt the deadline has changed, maybe they don't want to advertise it anymore because of the amount of applicants they received up to this point? Really not sure.

I always found it strange that everyone mentions about a shortage of nurses. I see at my school what seems to be hundreds of students trying to get into nursing. To me it seems that this profession has been saturated with people trying to become a nurse. This is of course just from observations I have made. What bothers me is that nurses have told me, "We need more nurses." But then also say, "The hospital is not hiring any new nurses." Is this a problem on the institutional scale? Are the higher ups not hiring for financial/profit reasons to give an illusion that we need nurses, but at the same time will not hire new nurses (even though there is an army of nurses ready to work)?
