Too old for BSN?

Published

I'll be 22 in August 2015 and I'll be starting nursing school on June 1st. The pre licensure BSN is 2 and a half years long so I'll be 24 and couple of months old when I receive my BSN and I wanted to get other people opinions if that's too old? I've met a lot of people who knew they were doing nursing right when they got out of high school but I didn't exactly know what I was doing so I wasted a lot of time. I want to know how old were you when you starting school, how long was the pprogram, and what age were when you received your BSN? I would love to know about other people's experiences with their program. Thank you.

Graduated at 20 for LPN, 24 with RN, 28 with BSN, and now in the MSN program at 31 (will be 32 in 2 days). Needless to say I have been in nursing school for a long time. There were people of all ages. My LPN program had a woman in her 60's. At 24 years old you are not too old.

Too old at 22? Then I should pack it up and forget about it. :)

I was 38 yrs old when I started my LPN schooling. Graduted a couple months after turning 39.

A few years later, I went back to do my LPN to RN program and graduated at 44 yrs old.

I went back yet again to do my RN to BSN program and will gradute when I'm 47.

No way are you too old. And you wouldn't be too old in your 30's, 40's or 50's etc.

I always wonder at these people who aren't even halfway through their twenties and ask about whether they're getting too old for.....anything.

Seriously, do they have a crystal ball that says they're dying at 35? Because unless they do, the question is ridiculous on its face. And even if they did, how is education, accomplishment, bettering oneself, ever wasted?

The woman who ranked number one in our group of 140 was 67 years old. We are now ready to graduate and she is still in the top of the class.

I hope you are kidding. 22 isn't too old for anything except high school! I am in an LPN program, I am 40. Our youngest student just turned 18 in October, our oldest is 58. You still have years and years ahead of you for a career, how on earth is this even a question? If you are too old, I'm in deep trouble, LOL

You are never too old to keep learning. If you want to talk about wasting time, I didn't decide to go back to school until I was 28! And on top of that, I didn't get my associates in nursing until I was 39! Now that I have been a nurse for 5 years, I am going for my BSN. My point is, everyone has their own way of doing things. I just chose to get married, have kids, and work full-time before I figured out what I wanted to do with my life career wise. We all have our own paths. I envy people who know right away what they want to do with their lives. You are lucky, you are still very young!

I completed my CNA at 16

LPN at 20

ADN at 23

BSN at 26

No, you are not too old.

As others have stated, 24 is not too old. I will be turning 35 in a few days and I am completing my last semester of prerequisites for my ADN program. If I get in on my first try I will be about 37 when I get my associates. I am planning on continuing on for my BSN and depending on the program I get into I will be about 38 to 40 when I complete that. Along with that I am planning on continuing on with a masters program which will place me in my 40's when I complete that. So 24 is definitely not too old, you still have many years before you :)

Ok, I think there's a dinosaur in the background of my baby pic....NO, you are definitely not too old to get a BSN. With the change in healthcare, there are many nurses that didn't start out as BSNs but are going back to school in order to keep their jobs! I started out as an LPN. I got my license when I was 20. I had always worked toward my RN but never got the motivation until after I had a baby and saw the workforce changing and my job as I knew it was obsolete. I don't particularly like the opportunities for LPNs where I live now so I am now finishing my degree...I will have my ADN when I am 34, my BSN when I am almost 36...if you want to be a nurse it is never to late to finish your education. If this is what you want to do then go for it.

If 22 is old, I must be a dinosaur. lol

This can't be real.

This is such a ridiculous question that I'm going to posit that you must be fishing.
