Too old for BSN?

Published

I'll be 22 in August 2015 and I'll be starting nursing school on June 1st. The pre licensure BSN is 2 and a half years long so I'll be 24 and couple of months old when I receive my BSN and I wanted to get other people opinions if that's too old? I've met a lot of people who knew they were doing nursing right when they got out of high school but I didn't exactly know what I was doing so I wasted a lot of time. I want to know how old were you when you starting school, how long was the pprogram, and what age were when you received your BSN? I would love to know about other people's experiences with their program. Thank you.

You are 22... are you serious?...

One of my classmates was 70, YES SEVEN ZERO. No one is too old. She had been an LVN for 30 years and wanted to achieve her life long dream of being an RN. She is.

Thank you for your comment. Why don't you look into a traditonal/generic BSN program that's less than 4 years?

I'm actually 21 but I'll be 22 in August. My nursing school will start on June 1st. I think the reason I'm so stressed about my age is because I've seen people who I know will be getting their BSN at 22-23.5 and I'm going to be older than them and it makes me feel a little embarrassed. Which I know I shouldn't let get to me but I can't help it. I'm going to try my best to ingnore that and do what's best for me.

Young people problems. You're fine hun. Absolutely fine.

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

Yep, you're too old. Just stay where you are. Never pursue anything beyond the age of 22. WAY too old.

- 34 year old new grad BSN.

Seriously, you'll still be one of the youngest people in your class. Don't even stress about it. I was right in the middle of my class, age-wise. Also, those of us with a little life experience did better, in general, than those right out of high school. Your patients will know the difference.

Pursuing an education is ageless. I became a LPN at 28. A RN at 33 then I received my BSN at 45. I will graduate from FNP at the age 49. I also plan on pursing my DNP! I do not feel age should matter. We all have different paths some of us start late, early, and in between but we all end up on the same page.

I'm 23 and dreaded the fact that I'd be 25 once I get my ADN, but seriously now I think I have classmates in their 40s just starting! The age you are at now isn't even close to being old, dont even worry. I know seeing others younger getting already graduating with their BSN can be hard to see, but its reLly not a huge deal.

Wow! I wish I would have thought more about nursing when I was 22. I got my first Bachelor's degree at 24 in Health Science. Just turned 25 and am JUST NOW deciding to go into nursing anddddd I have to retake a class to increase my GPA before I'm even eligible which means if all goes right I'll be 25 or 26 before I even start the program and then 2 years later.....graduate at 27 or 28.

You are most definitely on an early start!!!! Keep at it!!! It does make me feel a little better to read these response because I for SURE feel like I'm to old to start another degree! haha. WHEW!

I was the only one with kids in my BSN cohort and was one of two 30-somethings. Everyone else turned 21 while we were in the program together.

You are kidding, right? Too old? I have an ADN which I accomplished at the ripe age of 43. I am now in a BSN program at the age of 48 (4.0 GPA). Planning on going on and getting my NP. Will be 52 yo. And your wondering if 22 is too old? Nope, darling, it ain't.

Who defines too old? Do what you love and desire. I graduate with my ADN at age 24. You have me beat. My roommate will get her RN at 56.

Go make your dream happen

Did she find age discrimination when she applied for jobs?
