Too old for BSN?

Published

I'll be 22 in August 2015 and I'll be starting nursing school on June 1st. The pre licensure BSN is 2 and a half years long so I'll be 24 and couple of months old when I receive my BSN and I wanted to get other people opinions if that's too old? I've met a lot of people who knew they were doing nursing right when they got out of high school but I didn't exactly know what I was doing so I wasted a lot of time. I want to know how old were you when you starting school, how long was the pprogram, and what age were when you received your BSN? I would love to know about other people's experiences with their program. Thank you.

You'll look back when you're ~30 and realize how silly a question this is, lol. No, you're definitely not too old.

^That!

The people who start nursing school while in their 50's or 60's would laugh at your dilemma!

I am 30 right now. Im applying this May anf if I get accepted I will start nursing school being 31. Graduate with ADN at 33 and if I go get my bachelor then perhaps 34 or 35.

Please never say you are too old. You are never to old for an education. And you didnt waste time; you were living life.

OP, you are currently 1 year older than my Macallan.

OP: I would hope that at your age that you're younger than dead. Dead is truly the only "too old" for you do anything except decompose... I graduated with my Bachelors at 24. I stopped doing EMS work when I was 32. I started refreshing my prerequisites at 33 and was accepted into nursing school at 37 after applying for 4 consecutive years, graduated and earned my RN at 40 and I'm now 41 and am probably a hair's-breadth away from finding my first RN job...

I've been an athletic trainer, security guard, lifeguard, and Paramedic all before starting RN school.

Too old? Yikes! I was 37 when I finished, most of my cohort were non-traditional second degree students ranging from 25 to over 50 years old.

At your age you will definitely benefit from these nursing classes. I was a high school drop-out until I was 34. I achieved my BSN at 38.

Don't think life is bigger than it is, only you can live it. Just improve yourself everyday.

If you would have told me I would be working as a CVICU nurse 5 years ago, I would have laughed at you. Life is full of twists and turns.

I am 23 and applying for a January 2016 lvn program. This makes me feel better!

Im doing pre reqs now. by the time I get into the nursing program I will be 27. so no, you can never be too old to pursue something you want to do.

I agree. I went to college when I was 18 and not focused , didnt have a care in the world. Now im 26, married and have a baby on the way. My perception of life is so different than when I was 18 and in college. Much older and wiser and ready to start my journey

You are barely old enough to drink and you are asking if you are too old for a BSN? LMBO!

I just graduated last month with a BSN at 23 years, 4 months and 9 days old. I'm going to be 24 anyway, might as well be 24 with a degree that gives me pride and a career that makes me happy.
