?? We ate those as kids, right out of the can....so gross....I can still remember the smell...blech. Ranks up there with Spam...another "meat" I will not eat. My grandfather lived with us when I was a kid - he would fry up Spam and eggs just about every morning.
My husband put together a 72 hour emergency kit for us and threw in a few packages of Spam - I told him he better find something else for us to eat because I don't think I could eat that no matter how hungry I became. We are also starting to plan our meals for a backpack trip in the Summer - he had Spam on the list - I told him he better find an alternative for me because I was not going to eat Spam.
LOL Vienna Sausages where my Favorite lunch to take when I was a kid! I can't count the number of times I cut my finger trying to get that first little bugger out of the can! And I was/am a very picky eater! I tried them again recently as I thought maybe my own little picky eater/lunch packer would like them, but alas, no luck.

I do admit I was one of those kids that would eat stuff on a dare, but it was always food.

I ate those as a kid, too. My childhood diet consisted of cheap, heavily processed 'foodlike' substances due to my parents' tight household finances.
Regular meals included ramen noodles, boxed macaroni & cheese dinners, Franco American canned macaroni & cheese, hot dogs, salami sandwiches, and Rice-a-Roni.
I initially missed that this was in the school nurse forum and thought we were talking about hospital food. Reminded me of the short time I was on a stroke unit during nursing school. For the ones with difficulty swallowing who needed pureed food they'd just throw exactly what was for lunch for everyone else in a blender and then in a bowl. Turkey sandwich, peas, orange slices, milk, liquidized, all in a big bowl! It was horrifying. If I ever survived a stroke I know it wouldn't be long before I straight-up starved to death.
