The young lady with the can of Vienna Sausages and saltines! Some of the "food" the kids bring in kills me...

Reminded me of the short time I was on a stroke unit during nursing school. For the ones with difficulty swallowing who needed pureed food they'd just throw exactly what was for lunch for everyone else in a blender and then in a bowl. Turkey sandwich, peas, orange slices, milk, liquidized, all in a big bowl! It was horrifying. If I ever survived a stroke I know it wouldn't be long before I straight-up starved to death.
When my husband was still in high school he worked in the kitchen of a large nursing home. He said quite often meals would be going out to the residents and he would realize he forgot the "blends". The kitchen staff would throw whatever they had in a blender and blend it and it usually ended up purple...no explanation why. No one usually ate them anyway but OMG...imagine blended bologna.

When my Pop (my stepdad's dad) was younger, he broke his jaw and had to have it wired shut. He was on an all liquid, through a straw diet. The week before he was scheduled to have the wires removed, his family got subs from THE best sub shop in town. This was Jersey, remember. Delicious subs are a way of life. Anyway, they smelled and looked so good and my poor Pop was so hungry and miserable that he blended one of those sandwiches and drank it.
WOOF. No thanks. I'd rather have a Boost for breakfast, Ensure for dessert.

When I was working as a preschool teacher before I even thought about becoming a nurse, there was a little girl in my class that frequently brought that in for lunch. I also remember a little boy who would come in eating Doritos for "breakfast." I'm not a perfect parent and my children may have had donuts for breakfast here or there on special occasions but not every single day.
Also, is it bad that saltines have been my lunch recently too?! I buy them for my office and when I don't have time to bring anything, saltines it is! Better than what they serve here.

No. I have been eating saltines all morning because I forgot to eat breakfast and didn't pack a lunch. I do that about three times a week, in fact.
If I forget a lunch, it's Saltines and coffee for me. I have never and will never eat what they serve in the cafeteria.

My word! I used to love those as a kid. I would never eat those as an adult...lol. There is another one called potted meat. Its like those sausage things all grounded up.

And I was/am a very picky eater! I tried them again recently as I thought maybe my own little picky eater/lunch packer would like them, but alas, no luck.
My m other frequently sent me to school with a sandwich made with Vienna sausages.

Going in a different direction, it turns my stomach when coworkers heat their salmon/pickled whatever and it's not yet noon. Also the boiled eggs in a morning meeting/tuna in huddle etc...it's all so healthy but it doesn't mix with our already cramped meeting room and no windows.

Same! I'm already on my second round of saltines for the day...
