How to Deal With an Award?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I got an award for the biology lab classes today, but I did not feel happy. I do not know how to deal with this award.

Even though I studied biology and the lab hard, I still thought I did not earn this award. What I thought was I was lucky, and the award meant 50% lucky plus 50% sweat.

Was this thought normal?

In addition, how other allnurses.com friends dealt with an award? If some do not mind, would you please share the feelings here?

THANKS

Sincerely,

Grace

And for biology lab? Wow...

You should look at your award as an achievement and be proud of your accomplishments in lab. It sounds like you studied very hard and are worthy of your award. Just out of curiosity, how have you dealt with accepting awards in the past?

Life is to short to be upset because people think you did a good job. Be grateful that you have a good reputation.

If your conscience is bothering you because you don't feel you worked all that hard to earn it ... then use that as a spur to motivate you to earn the good reputation that you have been lucky enough to acquire.

How is studying hard considered 50% luck? Give yourself a little credit, you've obviously earned it. Kudos to you.

Recently I won "Nurse of Year" and had some of the same feelings, "that I'm really not all that, if they only knew.........", but still I work my fool tail off and tookt he award with pride, as you should too.

Good luck!

I worked hard for any awards I've received and I take great pride in them.

You should do the same.

I got an award at work that I wasn't really sure I earned, since it was pretty much for doing my job. My boyfriend reminded me that not everyone does their job well, and I should take pride in being recognized (even if it was so my boss's boss would look good). Now I've got a piece of paper on my wall and something that sounds good for nursing school applications. I'd say you're in a similar situation--even if only part of your award is due to hard work, you still put in hard work that others didn't. Be proud of yourself!

Wow...receive it graciously. It takes time to be able to receive complements--oddly enough, it can even be humbling. Particularly so if you don't like to draw attention to yourself. Remember that you can still be proud of your acheivement and also be a kind and level-headed person.

You get awards at your school? Was it a trophy or ribbon? Wow that would make me feel so good inside to get such a treat!
