This week, I have learned..... (8/1)

Nurses General Nursing

Published

This week, I have learned:

(Vacation edition!)

1. Absolutely nothing specifically related to nursing

2. It's hard to not judge unhealthy habits of people on vacation

3. I'm reaching a point in my nursing practice where I can frequently size up a person for their health issues

4. It sucks being handicapped with an unseen condition at an amusement park

5. I am NOT afraid to write a scathing hot review of a terrible hotel

6. Simply being within viewing distance of my kids' joy is the best part of a vacation, ever

7. If you have the option of "quick queue" at an amusement park when it's 100 degrees outside, just do it

8. If you touch me when it's this hot outside, I will want to punch you in the face (reread that with the properly deserved expletives)

9. I have a new favorite motto

That's all from me! What have you learned this week?

4.) ...I unfortunately cannot lick my elbow. This will not stop me from trying though.

You KNOW we all just tried this, right?

This week I have learned...

1. If it rains hard enough (you know for say, three weeks straight), my nature preserve view property turns in swampland...not passing as waterfront property...noooo way

2. That the cost of the 12 biopsies for a prostate can actually cost one heck of a lot more than the MRI, U/S guide for the biopsies, and the doctors bills themselves...after insurance MRI for diagnostic tool $40...biopsy performed by doctor with ultrasound $25...pathology for the biopsies $550 (without insurance it would have been over $4K)....This was done two years earlier before the company changed insurance carriers due to the new Obamacare costs....that one was $25 total......but hey, we're making healthcare affordable:banghead:....and the results for the preventative screening were negative in the end, one positive. Now hubby can keep his prostate and go to work to pay for the bill.

3. Fleas are the feline version of herpes....it has spread like wildfire...if I could only figure out which outdoor creature decided to hang off my screen:mad:. Fluffy never had fleas for the 8 years that he's been with us...all of the sudden....my ankles hurt...need to find an effective bomb (for fleas!)

4.Never teach a 5 year old how to look for fleas on the cat....she will learn quickly....and then find them on the outside porch and bring them in to show you as proof while you are in bed sleeping. Just LEAVE them OUTSIDE...mommy will comb the kitty...daddy watch the toddler!

Specializes in M/S, LTC, Corrections, PDN & drug rehab.

Fleas are horrible this year! Horrible! My mom has had to mow the yard, spray it & treat the pets. Must kill all the fleas!

Borax sprinkled into the carpet after a good vacuum helps. Be sure to take a broom and whisk it into the carpet. The particles are abrasive and kill the eggs. My cat groomer recommended this. They sell a product with it in it called flea stoppers. But main ingredient is boric acid.

Specializes in Reproductive & Public Health.

5.) That Powerpoint presentations are horrendous to complete. WHO MADE THESE?!

Try out Prezi- you'll NEVER go back to PP and your audience will be super impressed. https://prezi.com

Prezi is cool if you can figure it out!

Help moving my first child of 3 out of the house and into her first apartment was more draining physically, rather than mentally. I was strong and did not cry. She did text me first this morning, just to say hi. Now that made me cry, she misses me as much as I miss her. Now cleaning up her old room will take a lot of work.

Thankfully we have tile throughout the house. Apparently my mom washed the dogs again the morning. The flea epidemic is bad!

On the trip to the coast, my 14 year old tried to get me to do this. . . . . . . . . and I tried. But failed. :arghh:

He said a kid in his class can do it because he is "double-jointed and brings his arm around his head and then can lick his elbow".

Next time I see this kid, I'm going to ask him to show me. ;)

Specializes in Aged mental health.

Bahahaha, I don't believe this kid exists either. OC, you need videoed proof ;)

Thanks for the tip about Prezi, Cayenne. I'll check it out :)

I learned that 1 rum punch only...

Specializes in Critical Care, Neuro-trauma.

1) That heartaches and breakups never get easier no matter how many times you go through them. Losing a relationship, your brother, and your best friend all within a months time is enough to break even the strongest person.

2) that I have the absolute best coworkers in the whole entire world.

3) I miss working trauma more than anything in this whole world.

4) kids grow up entirely too fast! My sweet baby girl turns 5 tomorrow and to say I have major mommy tears is a complete understatement haha.
