This week, I learned (7/18).....

Published

1. All work and no play for seven straight days makes ixchel a mean girl. I think I may owe some apologies when I go back to work. :(

2. A young person is capable of being hypoxic to anoxic for so long their brain swells before their heart stops. (Particularly when they've had a lifetime of ignored asthma exacerbation so to get used to chronic hypoxia.)

3. Regarding said person, I have many cuss words for the people who could have done more for her.

4. Pools get slimy fast.

5. This person exists: VITAS - Седьмой элемент / The 7th Element - YouTube

6. I love the pet therapy thread! (If you haven't seen it, go to my profile and see threads I've started. I think it's the one I started before this one.)

7. I'm attempting to go off caffeine. I'm an idiot.

8. I want to be an FBI agent. Mulder and Scully just make it look so damn cool.

9. Apparently, a wonderful perk of working for a hospital is a fast-acting employee health department. It's good to know my potential HIV and Hep status quickly after a needle stick.

10. Press Ganey did not ask questions I hoped they would ask on our survey.

11. I'm not okay with the waxing and waning of adequate staffing, especially when they have yet to actually "officially" change the staffing requirements for my unit to what they "officially changed it to" two years ago. NOT COOL. This is actually what led to number 1.

What have you learned this week?

An ironing board that includes the word "sleeve" in the description is definitely not an ironing board. It looks more like a toboggan for cats.

Today I found out my 3 year old is indeed autistic.

I thought I prepared myself better but I'm still trying not to lose it.

Hugs, my friend.

You have someone around you can vent to right now?

If not you know I'm here, and I dorificesay, so are many here on AN.

I sure am.

Thanks guys. I

He was getting help through early intervention but he turned 3 so that ended. He starts school in a month. I did get a booklet of different providers and therapists. I'm going to contact insurance again tomorrow and get a list of approved providers emailed to me. Hopefully there's some that will come to the house or are already in my town. Making a 3 hour round trip for an hour long appointment is the pits.

Good luck. My niece was diagnosed with it at age 2. She is now 4 and doing so much better with therapy and she even attended school last year and loved it. Her language has improved, she is finally potty trained, and her tantrums have been greatly reduced. It's a pain to have strangers in their house 5 days a week, but it is amazing seeing how far she has come with her autism.

Bahaha, I just got the best idea for my cats this winter...

That it is indeed possible to get an MSN online, without having to have any clinical instruction or experience, if you have a BA with "a lot" of experience in a non-Nursing field.

I think this is truly frightening.

Edit: I poked around a bit more and discovered that there is, indeed, some clinical component. Even so, I would imagine that these clinical hours would be lacking in any hands-on experience, except in a lab setting.

If anyone can shed some light on these programs, please do. Because right now, I'm looking for the Ativan dispenser!!

Finally receiving the diagnosis is at once both tough and a relief. Early intervention and continued therapies made all the difference for my now 11 y.o. son (Aspie).

Know that you're not alone and we're here for support. ((Hugs))

I don't know, but I'm planning on staying as healthy as possible and telling my doctor that I want to be admitted as a positively last resort.

The article lists the following as positions these MSNs can fill:

Certified dialysis nurse

Certified legal nurse consultant

Certified nurse midwife

Nurse educator

Nurse practitioner

Nurse anesthetist

Nurse case manager

Clinical nursing specialist

Be afraid, be VERY afraid.
