This week, I learned (7/18).....

Published

1. All work and no play for seven straight days makes ixchel a mean girl. I think I may owe some apologies when I go back to work. :(

2. A young person is capable of being hypoxic to anoxic for so long their brain swells before their heart stops. (Particularly when they've had a lifetime of ignored asthma exacerbation so to get used to chronic hypoxia.)

3. Regarding said person, I have many cuss words for the people who could have done more for her.

4. Pools get slimy fast.

5. This person exists: VITAS - Седьмой элемент / The 7th Element - YouTube

6. I love the pet therapy thread! (If you haven't seen it, go to my profile and see threads I've started. I think it's the one I started before this one.)

7. I'm attempting to go off caffeine. I'm an idiot.

8. I want to be an FBI agent. Mulder and Scully just make it look so damn cool.

9. Apparently, a wonderful perk of working for a hospital is a fast-acting employee health department. It's good to know my potential HIV and Hep status quickly after a needle stick.

10. Press Ganey did not ask questions I hoped they would ask on our survey.

11. I'm not okay with the waxing and waning of adequate staffing, especially when they have yet to actually "officially" change the staffing requirements for my unit to what they "officially changed it to" two years ago. NOT COOL. This is actually what led to number 1.

What have you learned this week?

Specializes in M/S, LTC, Corrections, PDN & drug rehab.
I'm ready for a new tat myself. Sounds therapeutic to me!!

I am so addicted!!!

Lol! Thank you! That helped! I haven't gotten a tattoo in forever & forgot how bad it itches!!!! >.

How did you not think to smack it?!

I learned that I'm okay with getting a B in microbiology, because I've already been accepted into a nursing program.

I learned that I am definitely the least favorite child.....

Actually, I have always known I'm the least favorite, it's just constantly reinforced 😂

Hahaha! Because it's been that long. :p Brain fart maybe?

I want to like this about getting into the program and out of sympathy about being the least favorite child.

My father has told me on many occasions he hates me. *shrugs*

Just helps you know how to not raise your kids if and when you have them.

Sorry ((hug))

That smiley looks like it's trying to pick it's nose with it's tongue.

Ooo do you have the link?

1. Even if the physician thinks a patient has time to decide about code status, they don't. It is perfectly appropriate to nag a physician into addressing code status right then and there, because the patient that you think isn't going to code during this admission WILL go into PEA when you least expect it.

2. A Huber needle can have a Y-sited saline lock.

3. A blast of IV Decadron can work absolute wonders in bringing your patient out of a completely lethargic state.

4. I do give out useful pieces of information, even if I think I'm the last person to hand out good advice. People can and do learn from the things I say.

5. A day off is a blessing that should not be taken for granted. I need to quit cramming all of my errands into one off day and learn to simply relax and enjoy my mornings.

6. I'm closer to being a homeowner than I think.

7. I can be made to feel inferior for not having had children. And people do not tend to accept my explanation of my career as my "baby."

8. I need to quit taking my health for granted.

9. I need to be a bit more gracious and humble.

10. I value the education my nursing instructors handed me more than I even realize. And even though I'm now an RN practicing on my own, I still need a mentor from time-to-time.

Nynursey - #7 makes me angry. What is wrong with people that they should feel they even have a right to judge that? I have a guy friend who is adamant about no kids, and talks freely and frequently with me about it because we're good friends, and this has really hindered his dating life. He has no real reason for it. He just doesn't want kids. My aunt is the same way - just doesn't want kids. Recognizing this thing about yourself, and sticking to it if that's what you want, is certainly far better than following society's expectations and being miserable as a consequence.

Not that it's my business or you need my validation. It's just ridiculous what people feel entitled to comment on.

I learned that my son, 33, really IS turning into a more incredible man every day. We have been the two of us since he was a toddler. He has had his struggles over the years, but is really on the other side of them. He apologized for not taking the time to talk to me about his dad, on the anniversary of his dad's death.......he acknowledged he could have stepped up instead of stepping way.

Sounds like he's stepping up now.:)
