The abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.

The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood.  I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

In February, federal worker Stefanie Anderson sat at her kitchen table with her husband and asked questions she never imagined having to face: Were their children safe? Should they pull them from school? Should they leave their home?

A friend had sent her a link to a "DEI Watchlist" published by the American Accountability Foundation, a right-wing group with ties to senior officials in U.S. President Donald Trump's administration. It listed Anderson's name, photo, salary and work history, and accused her and other federal employees of pushing "radical" diversity, equity and inclusion policies in government.

Rather than aiming at high-profile political appointees, AAF's lists focus mostly on career civil servants who execute the policy of the administration in power. AAF President Tom Jones and his backers argue that many of these employees lean liberal and could work quietly to undermine Trump's agenda, so the public deserves to know their identities.

"They want to be unaccountable bureaucrats who work in these agencies and never get seen,” he told Fox News in June 2024. "We're gonna tell you who these people are and what they're about.

Quote

Jones did not respond to a detailed list of questions about AAF or the impact of its watchlists on the civil servants it targets, but defended its work in a statement to Reuters. "It's important that anti-Trump civil servants know someone is watching and taking names; we stand by our research and reporting, with our only regret being that more people on our lists haven't left government and handed their jobs over to patriots who will execute on the agenda the American people voted for in November."

Hhhmmm

It looks and sounds like the fascists are targeting federal workers based upon their freedom of speech and thought. Probably not all Trump supporters agree with this.

An interesting side note.  Just last week there was reporting about Democrat upsetting Republicans by moving so slowly to approve Trump's nominations for positions. We'll just put aside for the moment that most of Trump's nominees are wildly unqualified and frighteningly corrupt or compromised. The American Accountability Group was founded in 2020 by Trump Republicans to get in the way of Biden nominees. Now they are part of the administrative tools.  The GOP hypocrisy is out in the open now.  Like the corruption.

If people want to use the term to describe what kind of people the world would be better without, its important to know who exactly they're talking about.

It's important to understand the level of hate some have toward others.

No, hatred is irrelevant if the person doesn't do harm to the hated.  You keep misrepresenting my point.  My busy life doesn't give me the time to mull over hating MAGA's.  I didn't send Jewish lasers to kill Hulk Hogan.  HH wasn't anyone I thought about ,,,ever, unless he comes up in the news.  He was an irrelevant person in my world.  My first degree was in art.  His personal demeanor offended my aethetics so he was of no interest, as are the people who die everday that I never knew.  So just stop with the gaslighting.  Since you are the one who insists on another definition of MAGA besides the one posted, why don't you tell us what the qualities of MAGA are that attract you.  Previous conservative policies don't count because MAGA does not equal conservatism since the people who truly thought conservatively have left the party.  Google it...the list is too long to post and doesn't even include journalists.  What specific MAGA policies are making us great again?

When will Trump insist on an arm salute and a Heil Trump?  I never heard of the AAG but stalking "subversives" is already Orwellian.  I see it was started in 2020 and wonder if was responsible for sending out the death threats to anyone who didn't bow deeply enough...like Fauci.  It's becoming quite scary to be a government employee now.  He's close now to firing everyone who isn't blonde.  He's that unhinged.

"Spin" is a pejorative label used to imply dishonesty and self-serving characterization of a given issue or situation.

So, 'splain, please? What's being spun and why is it dishonest?

I'm curious also.

Our most famous example of a fascist authoritarian using a police force to enforce some kind of ideological purity was the leader of the White nationalist Nazis of Germany. Orwell did, indeed, write about this kind of stuff.

Maybe it was my post that was the spin.

The Corps of Engineers declined to address any financial impact of raising the river. Spokesman Gene Pawlik said the agency's Louisville District temporarily increased outflows from the Caesar Creek Lake in southwest Ohio into the Little Miami "to support safe navigation of U.S. Secret Service personnel.” He said the move met operational criteria and fell within normal practice.

There's nothing we won't do for our elected leadership.  At least they let other people use the water too.

Somehow it got spun that I loathe Beerman and think he's a Nazi.  I just can't anymore.  I'm done splaining.

You said you loathed MAGA's.  I believe you said the intensity with which you loathe them scares you at times.

According to the definitions that have been offered, including your own, that includes me.

No splaining needed.

It was someone else who compared MAGAs to Nazi's.

I definitely talk about the MAGA movement in terms of its resemblance to historical fascists groups like the Nazis.  We could have whole discussions about it because there's quite a bit of scholarly information available about the fascist movements of old that can be compared to current events. There are many important consistencies in the agendas of fascist organizations.  As long as the fascists control the GOP and the country, I'm going to be talking about the fascists.

Important people will write books about this fascist regime.  At some point in the future people will marvel at how a conman, felon, fraud, and sex trafficker co-conspirator got himself elected president twice...by people who called themselves Christian and a moral majority.  Interested people will study and discuss how some American voters were deceived by the liar POTUS and the dishonest and corrupt people surrounding him. Future generations will wonder that people cheered on the weakening of the institutions of their own republic.  They'll have so much more information about the people who enabled the American fascists than we did about the earlier Germans.  Our modern historians will have benefit of all of this social media interaction of the population. From folks like myself who've been warning of the right wing extremist authoritarian movement that they call MAGA for nearly 10 years, to folks who support the movement but don't really want to be publicly identified as a member of the movement, to the mitläufer who just go along to get along and offer no resistance.  There will be so much more information about how  Americans chose fascism than there was about Germany choosing it.

Federal and state governments allege that from January 2016 through October 2020, Ntchana and IPS violated the federal and state False Claims Act by billing Medicare and Connecticut Medicaid for services that were never rendered, services from an unlicensed provider and upcoded or duplicative claims.

State and federal lawmakers say that Ntchana and IPS caused false claims to be submitted that listed Ntchana as the rending provider, when the services really were never provided.

Ntchana and his related entities resolved their liability by agreeing to pay $614,427, plus interest, which was based on their ability to pay.

This was a psychiatric advanced practice nurse.  I immediately thought about the several members who have come and gone in these threads who have crowed about their very lucrative psychiatric practices in the political threads talking about Trump.

What interesting coincidences. It's like the coincidence that the people who were worried about a liberal child sex ring in a pizza parlor elected a guy who for years supplied an infamous child sex trafficker with access to pretty young girls at his proprties and pageants.  The American culture is weird. I think it's the focus on money and power and appearances here.  Maybe we value power and wealth more than we value integrity, morals or values. That certainly seems to be true of politics when the current political leadership has no integrity, morals or values and that's OK with the conservative voters.
