QuoteThe abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.
The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood. I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.
Tweety said:It will be a good deal for America if we quit sending billions to fight the war in Ukraine and we don't have to sanction Russia. It doesn't sound good as Ukraine is holding steadfast to not giving up any territory.
He already negotiated a deal yet to be played out for Ukraines rare earth minerals, as well as securing investments for the EU and companies like Apple, so he knows how to make deals favorable to the US.
I'll believe it when I see it. It made me depressed to watch Tim Cook grovel in the oval room. It was as grotesque as all the suicides among the young Chinese people who worked in those factories. #GoSamsung.

I'm too lazy right now to dig deeper into the claim that Mamdani is an "avowed socialist" when he's a Democrat Socialist and there is a difference. So it looks like Republicans are going back to spitting out socialist and communism in relation to Democrats.
Yeah. That guy really has jumped the shark. I don't understand Democratic Socialism well but it works great in Iceland. I do understand that people who inhabit basically what is a big volcanic rock have to stick together to survive. But our "rugged individualism" seems to be a social code that's becoming less popular. But what Mamdani is not offering is DS. Anybody offering everything for free is not thinking clearly. Either you pay 50% in taxes or you pay for your bus and subway rides.

I think you're exaggerating his stance about "offering everything for free". I don't know about his stances deeply and don't follow NYC politics much, but I think he wants to offer free transportation, affordable housing and childcare and taxing rich and rich corporations more.
I think these stances are appealing to not only DS but democrats as whole. Many democrats have run on these issues.
Doubtful he can pull much off as the city is in debt. Also taxing corporations in NYC only causes them to leave to more tax friendly places like Texas and Florida.
We have seen great transfers of wealth upwards while the middle class suffers the most in making ends meet and getting in debt. Some of our biggest expenses are housing, education and childcare and I can see why it would attractive to redistribute wealth differently so that people in the middle and bottom can benefit.
Naturally Fox News needs to frame this as a dangerous stance.
Cumo, the NY Post and Fox News are criticizing him for living in a rent controlled apartment despite his six figure salary. However, I can guess that a six figure salary doesn't go far in New York and his low rent apartment is $2,250 ish a month. Apparently his family is affluent though but he still campions against the affluent.
Again, I don't follow NYC politics that much and not sure why Fox News has made it headline news.

This didn't make much sense to me but I'll only go as far as Google AI for the time being unless you want to link about those suicides in those factories.
I have a Samsung phone, and I also know that my clothes and many things I own aren't ethically sourced. I try when I can, such as ethical chocolate and cashews and I don't buy Thai shrimp, etc. But it's exhausting looking at the products that exploit workers on the back end.
QuoteHowever, the more widely publicized issue of suicides in Chinese electronics factories is often associated with Foxconn, a major supplier to many companies including Samsung. Reports from 2012 by China Labor Watch alleged various labor violations at Samsung's Chinese suppliers, including excessive overtime, exhausting conditions, and potentially unsafe practices, which echo some of the concerns raised about Foxconn.
It's important to note that Samsung has taken steps to address concerns about working conditions in its supply chain, including pledging to address illegal overtime and conducting audits. In 2018, Samsung also formally apologized and agreed to a compensation plan for workers who fell ill or died after working in its factories, particularly focusing on illnesses like leukemia linked to chemical exposure in its chip and LCD factories, according to the BBC. This compensation covered various illnesses and even congenital conditions affecting workers' children.
While it's crucial to acknowledge the reported suicides and the broader concerns about labor conditions, it's also important to rely on up-to-date and verified information from reliable sources when evaluating the current situation.

It doesn't make sense.
The suicides were years ago...most of them I believe over a decade ago.
I didn't hear of any "groveling ". I did hear that since Trump's term started that Apple has committed to investing $600 billion in American manufacturing.
The seems like a good thing.
I watched the video that Hegseth posted. First, I'm happy that Hegseth has found Jesus and hopefully has stopped things like adultery (admitted) and alcohol abuse (alleged) and living the Life of Christ. People change and have spiritual awakenings. I'm good with that.
I really don't mind Christians preaching and sharing Christ as that is their command, but the idea that's gaining traction is that we should become a Christian nation living by their laws is disturbing as it always has been with me as someone that is considered a criminal in their eyes.

His drunken jags are well documented. If he really came to Jesus, he would step down since no one can list a single qualifier for this guy. Believing in Jesus is not a qualifier for the DOD. He's just hedging his bet against getting fired.

The suicides were years ago....so? You bought an I Phone anyway? So did millions of others who didn't think these kids were important enough. You don't think that the gold brick Tim Cook donated to Trump wasn't an overt plea to go easy on the sanctions from China ? One little piece of glass the the phone needs MAY come over here but the phones will never be made here. No one is even contesting that.

I mentioned them being years ago as I know you probably blame Trump somehow.
I don't know what the purpose of the "gold brick" was.
There are a lot of theories you throw out there. Maybe you're right this time.

Besides, large corporations aren't known for truth-telling. Their only enduring commitment is to their own profits. Everything else is subject to change until it actually gets done. Let's start a pool on how much of that $600 billion actually gets invested, and in what.

Here's an example of right wing extremism in our culture. I'm pleased that he was charged with terrorism. We've known for sometime that right wing extremists pose the largest threat for domestic terrorism and its good to see some charges that reflect that.
