Quote

The abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.

The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood.  I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

Trump's own words and history suggests that escalation is the intent.  World history relative to the rise of fascist dictators also points to intentional misuse of military.  It's sometimes that effort that results in the rapid fall of a fascist dictator.  The military refuse the unconstitutional orders and push back.  The right wing propaganda apparatus has been weakening that fealty to the constitution in the military for quite a spell now. I've shared articles about the purge that has been going on in the military leadership.  I don't think we'll see big push back from our elite military. I hope I'm wrong.

I hope you're wrong too.  People think that this doesn't have anything to do with them but they don't realize that their freedoms are being restricted.

I think this is starting to change, though.

A protest is not an attack on America.

Blocking highways, lighting cars on fire, mass looting, throwing bricks at cars, waving flags of a foreign nation while you attack American citizens.....This needs to be delt with as a direct attack on our nation.  The military needs to be fully mobilized and live ammunition needs to be approved.

Hyperbole and outright lies are definitely tools of fascists who are trying to justify use of violence to stifle peaceful protest.  It's interesting to listen to the guy who assembled and motivated the January 6th mob call protests attacks on our nation.  It's weird that anyone would believe that kind of baloney from such an unreliable source.

People are upset because their rights are being violated.  Now people are allowed to protest, and in this instance, it may not be in the best way.  But clearly you can understand how it would feel to have someone come into your town and your businesses and start snatching your friends and neighbors accidentally and on purpose.  It is terrifying and would make you upset.  Again, I'm not saying that it is being demonstrated in the best way, but people want to be heard and sending in the military and shooting people as you say (use live ammunition), how is that helping.  It is bullying and telling people YOU DON'T MATTER.  We need people in charge with brains because clearly, we're not seeing any.

Newsome brought in the National Guard during the BLM movements, it's his job..  Even Noem during the pipeline protests was against the governor not having the say so in these matters when she was a governor.

Trump straight up lied when he said Newsome was responsible for deaths during these protests.  Either he's making things up like he always does or is given false information, but either way I don't believe a word he's saying right now about the situation there and his reasoning.  He hold zero credibility in my eyes.

MAGA missionary war-mongering aside, we've seen this progression before. The police riot in Chicago during the 1968 democratic convention, the rise of armed resistance during the civil rights movement after the asassination of Dr King, radical environmentalists sabotaging lumbering operations, the bomb-throwing bank-robbing wing of the anti-war movement in the Viet Nam era.

The American Revolution.

What do these and many other examples have in common? People who have been pushed too far.

Personally, I've seen the reports of car-burnings and blocked traffic. I've also seen video of police officers destroying their own cruiser. I've read the rationales for sending in the US military. I've also read reports of local officials on the ground maintaining that the protests were 99% peaceful.

I believe that the calculated cruelty and lawlessness of the administration is intended to spark a shooting war so that trump can loot the country at his leisure and miller can have his whites-only utopia.

After all, Turtle Island was stolen at the point of a gun. Why stop now?

Time to pick a side, kids.

Sides have largely been chosen.  Some simply don't comprehend the ramifications of their choices. Yet. We've seen that in history too.

Are you really justifying domestic terrorism?  Glad the national guard are coming out to take care of these attacks.  People's lives are in danger.  We need to use live ammunition.

Interesting. Would you have supported military deployment on Jan.6th?

I don't see any foreign flags being hoisted in the air, I don't see the US flag being desecrated and set on fire in these two examples you posted above. Nor do I see any direct attacks on law enforcement and government officials either.

If I remember correctly there was far less violence and property damage caused by the Charlottesville protest/riot.

If these 2 incidents included the same violence that occured in 2020 and what is happening right now, I'd say yes Gavin, send in the military.

I agree the protests in LA need to be monitored and dealt with before people get hurt and it escalates.   But Trump saying they are "migrant riots" is just him making things up and a bit dramatic.

Interesting that the click bait on the homepage on Fox calls them "rioters" as well, but the article you click is calling them "protestors" and "dozens of people", while Trump is saying the city is out of control.  Again, a bit dramatic.

I'm not endorsing the cause there or condoning "domestic terrorism" if that's what we're calling it these days.

I guess after the 2020 "mostly peaceful but feiry protest" reports by CNN and other left MSM media, Fox can call this riot a riot.
