QuoteThe abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.
The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood. I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

Trump's fundamental nature pushes against his own fabricated narrative. Trump is not an empathetic, thoughtful or helpful person. Those are uncommon features in extreme cases of NPD .
There's also the idea that rather than diffuse the situation, it's making it worse. Someone is going to get hurt.
It's interesting that Speaker Johnson, a constitutional lawyer, felt that he couldn't speak to the president's idea that Newsom could be arrested but felt very comfortable saying that some other measure could be taken. The Speaker specifically mentioned that the Governor ought to be "tarred and feathered" for "standing in the way" of the president's agenda and efforts in California. In this era where we are repeatedly reminded that our every word might inspire someone to take a shot at Trump, his reference to vigilante justice seemed... weird. I'm sure it's fine.

Trump's own words and history suggests that escalation is the intent. World history relative to the rise of fascist dictators also points to intentional misuse of military. It's sometimes that effort that results in the rapid fall of a fascist dictator. The military refuse the unconstitutional orders and push back. The right wing propaganda apparatus has been weakening that fealty to the constitution in the military for quite a spell now. I've shared articles about the purge that has been going on in the military leadership. I don't think we'll see big push back from our elite military. I hope I'm wrong.

Just because something was accepted practice in that era does not mean it's acceptable today. Similar to black Americans we saw higher income Americans have their own civil rights movement helping rectify the tremendous tax burden they were expected to hold. All we want is equal treatment,
What does this have to do with this thread?

I'm wondering if AN users are all actual organic beings. Some folks' trains of thought are even wonkier than mine.
"Trains of thought" is a bit of a stretch. It reads more like regurgitated rhetoric than any measure of original or independent thought.

Subee you are exactly right! And to piggyback off of what you said "most of us don't want to go down that road." A lot of us can't. People don't want to have or see the hard conversations that some of us just don't have the same opportunities as others no matter how hard we try. Our voices are often silenced. And when we get loud, we're agitators.
I just wish they stop pretending.

LOL! I couldn't read the article. Can someone paste it in...

Whether it be storming the capital and shooting members of congress, bombing the capital, burning down America in the Summer of love, and now this. Thank god the good guys are in charge and this attack on America will not be tolerated.
A protest is not an attack on America.

The president of the Heritage Foundation warned us last year that the revolution would be bloodless if the left would allow. He may have underestimated the willingness/ intent of people lacking empathy or compassion to hurt people who resist their will. Trump seems to be intent upon escalating violence in order to justify his coming unconstitutional ambitions. That fits with historical fascists.
We're in trouble. You have people who clearly are having their civil rights violated and you have people saying, you have no civil rights. You also have people on the sidelines (in power positions) mind you egging or trying to turn up the violence on this and then you have people looking the other way. It's shameful

It's interesting that Trump was advised to use Marines in LA. That military group didn't exist when the Posse Comitatis Act was written, but they (and the Navy) were included in a later, seperate statute. It's clear that whoever is commanding the marines and the POTUS both believe that they can argue around a need for an act of Congress or use of the Insurrection Act to use the Marines in this type of civilian policing. Will we learn that the Marine Commander questioned the legality of this order before asking his troops to serve if this capacity? Do any of the individual Marines know what the Posse Comitatis includes and wonder about the legality of their orders?
This is not your fascist fighting grandpa's USA.
