This was interesting in the news today...

The abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.

The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood.  I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

You're right, but not in the way you think.

If they had fought and lost, they would have paid far more than $15 million.  And, they knew they were likely to lose.

If they thought they were on the winning side, protecting their reputation and mounting a defense would be worth far more than the $15 they settled for.  Just Stephanopoulos himself makes somewhere around that in one year.  So, they could easily afford it.

That's all the case was worth.  Lawyers aren't stupid..especially in NYC.  George S. has always leaned right and he's already a gazillionaire.  He doesn't care and ABC knew they did something stupid that was worth 15 million.  Cased closed.  All the lawyers snapped their brief cases closed and went out for lunch.

I mentioned and linked to a story about ABC News as part of a settlement has to pay $15 million into a foundation set up to build Trump's library.

Some who agreed with Stephanopoulos's defamatory statements are deflecting from the story by making the comments that you see above.

If you are referring to me re: GS's statement,  I never gave any indication that I agreed with what he said.  I don't.

Perhaps, and I don't disagree, but a 15 million dollar settlement is a drop in the bucket to have it swept under the rug done and gone.  With America's attention span (if they even new about it at all), they've already recovered and their reputation is intact.  Looking at their ratings it seems they are still the #1 show on the nightly news but this might have been before the settlement.

Couldn't Trump have not taken the settlement and pursued his case if he was that assured to win?

Some good points you make.

As to your last one/question goes, he was out you punish them, and imo to have them help pay for his library was worth millions more to him.

Well, I can't say that you're wrong.  There is after all plenty of evidence to back up your statement that they really don't care about being a reputable news organization.

I would think if he were out to punish them having a larger settlement and guilty verdict would have been better.  But his point was made and his charity got the money and he did his victory lab.

No on to all the others he is suiing.

I shouldn't really be the one to do it. It should have been the Justice Department or somebody else, but I have to do it. It costs a lot of money to do it, but we have to straighten out the press. Our press is very corrupt.

FOLKENFLIK: He said the press is almost as corrupt as our elections - something else he hasn't proven.

The lawsuits will never quit when Trump is involved.  It's his favorite hobby.  He was well coached by Roy Cohn.

Today I read that pertussis cases have risen 14 fold in Michigan since 2023.  Things are going to get much worse for pertussis here.  We have a lot of low information people.  These are nightmare cases to intubate in the ER.  Little babies will die.

It's a trend nationally.  I remember a couple of years ago the culprit was RSV overwhelming the hospitals here.  It seems liked it's always something.

Still according to this article "Additionally, 66% of pertussis cases involved people who were either unvaccinated or had not received a vaccine in more than five years."

I've attended a couple of vaccine conferences and according to one of the leading experts, the current pertussis vaccine (acellular) only protects for about 2 years. It was changed several years ago from whole cell pertussis as a response to vaccine skepticism.
That's what listening to non experts gets you.
Even though Tdap is only recommended once for adults (except in pregnancy) I get it every time I'm due for a tetanus shot. They call it the 100 day cough for a reason.

Hmm.  The experts changed the type of vaccine used due to the skepticism of non experts.   Well, that's weird.

Oh, what do ya know.  There were actually legitimate safety concerns that led to the change.

"Immunization with the whole-cell pertussis vaccine (Pw), while effective at preventing whooping cough in infants, has been associated with local, systemic, and neuronal reactions, including fevers and convulsions in children."

You mean you don't follow the recommendation of the experts?

You've done your research and formed and acted on your own opinion?

Crazy.

We had a pertussis outbreak here in 2019.  Sick school agers but no infants.  And they still won't  vaccinate:(
