QuoteThe abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.
The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood. I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

Schools take it upon themselves to decide that parents shouldn't be notified about their children wanting to be called by a different name or wanting to use the opposite sex's bathroom. Trans girls share hotel rooms with other girls on a school trips without notifying any parents or students. Trans women are allowed to compete in women's competitive sports.
It's easy to understand why some think think the govt needs to intrrvene.
Young children are not taking drugs. They are only receiving talk therapy. By the time that child becomes a teenager, things become very different. I don't care about the senarios you describe above since I was always allowed to go to a gay guys' slumber parties at his house (the rest were all girls). The only complaint you list which I think is real is girls having to compete with former boys. I'm not sure that the schools behave as you describe except for the few outliers.

I believe trans women should be considered woman in society (but respect that sports organizations should make their own rules) and I do not what to debate whether or not trans women are "men pretesting to be women" or the fact that they were biologically born a man and thus are always men, or even which bathroom they should use. We've been there and done that, so I appreciate your respecting that.
Great. I believe the same. There really isn't a debate to have.

8, 10, even 12 years old seems young to me. I guess that's subjective.

Its nice that you don't care, but you going to a known gay guys house with a bunch of other girls seems different than a girl sharing a bed with a biological male (sexual orientation unknown) unbeknownst to her and her parents.
How do you know it's an outlier? The above happened in one of the bigger school districts in the US, and only became known when the transgirl revealed herself to her bedmate.

I'm confused. A standard model girl slept with a metric model girl at a slumber party? I don't know why people spend so much time worrying about a tiny minority of people when millions of kids are having dismal childhoods. I will defer to the pediatric endocrinologists to help parents and kids with gender issues rather than the random internet commentators or even worst, the Gym Jordan's of the world:)

Yes, it does seem you're confused.
I doubt the peds endocrinologists have anything to do with the school administrators letting a bio male on a school trip sleep in the same bed as a female without notifying the female or her parents.

Rather than draining the swamp, as the former president promised during his 1st term, he seems to be filling the swamp with former lobbyists and heads of industry.
QuoteThe best evidence is who Trump is hiring for top positions. Susie Wiles, who managed Trump's 2024 campaign, was a registered lobbyist until she was named White House chief of staff after the election. She joined Ballard Partners, a Florida-based firm, in 2011, lobbying for a variety of clients. In 2018, Politico Magazine called the firm's founder, Brian Ballard, "the most powerful lobbyist in Trump's Washington.” (Ballard recently told The New York Times that Wiles's work for his firm was mostly strategy and messaging rather than traditional lobbying.)
David A. Graham: Pam Bondi's comeback
Ballard Partners' footprint extends past the West Wing. Pam Bondi, Trump's new nominee for attorney general, also worked at the firm after a stint as attorney general of Florida. Her clients there included the Qatari government, Amazon, and Uber. Sean Duffy, Trump's pick for transportation secretary, worked as a lobbyist at another firm. In August, Trump told the podcaster Theo Von, "You have to stop listening to lobbyists.” That should start with a very easy step: Don't hire lobbyists to staff your own administration.
But it's not just lobbyists. Trump is also picking many people who come straight from industries that the government regulates or does business with. As the journalist David Dayen put it, Trump's transition team and early appointments are full of people "better known for paying the lobbyists than being them.” That list includes Commerce Secretary–designate Howard Lutnick, the CEO of the financial firm Cantor Fitzgerald; Linda McMahon, the former head of World Wrestling Entertainment and now the nominee to lead the Education Department; and the Treasury nominee Scott Bessent, a hedge-fund mogul.

I'm sure all those who voted for him this time based on "drain the swamp " from 8 years ago will be disappointed.

I 100% agree with that transition and gender issues should be left to medical and psychological professionals, not politicians and the public, especially when it comes to minors.
I believe Beerman or someone posted the incident when it happened. Apparently the sleep over event made the cis child uncomfortable and the parent wasn't given advance notice or choice that her child would be assigned a trans room mate. I can see why that would be a problem. The mother was understanding and not acting overly transphobic but was of the opinion that as parents they should have been given a choice whether or not their child would bunk with transgendered girl. The parent should have had an opportunity to talk to the child and asked how she felt about it. If the child was uncomfortable then other arrangements could have been made.
While I do believe a trans girl, is a girl and not a boy and shouldn't be bunking with a boy, I'm leaning towards the cis girl and her parents should have been given a choice and notice, and a chance to talk and think about it. The parents would have found out their child would have been uncomfortable with it and stopped it. Instead it blew up and transphobic people gave their opinions about a "boy being forced into bunking with a girl".
But it does show the concerns for a cis child trump concerns for trans children in the publics and politicians minds. Perhaps there's a middle ground somewhere that the emotional well being of transgendered children are a consideration as well.

Outlier case. It really does appear from your posts that you would appreciate some government interference in such cases. This was one person who made a bad decision. They are everywhere and the government can't stop it.

Not only are they a pack of grifters; they are easily controlled.
I wanted to do a deeper dive into the idea promoted by Trump's appointee to lead the FBI that people have lost faith in the FBI.
For me personally, I don't think of the FBI often and don't have any reason to believe they aren't to be trusted.
I found this article posted by Fox the other referencing a CNN (sort of mocking him) report that apparently Trust in the FBI is at an all time low.
https://www.foxnews.com/media/cnn-data-guru-reports-americans-trust-fbi-lowest-point-century
A deeper dive shows differences between Republicans and Democrats so the drop in trust might be Republican lead, especially since the FBI raided Mar a Largo. But adding in independents 74% of people believe the FBI is biased against Trump in poll posted below.
But it was also interesting to find a gap in generations with Gen Z trusting them less than the Silent Generation.
https://www.apmresearchlab.org/motn-fbi-trust-jan-2023
The opinion of Democrats might shift. While Trump says he won't direct the FBI to investigate political "enemies", Patel will do what he thinks is right and he already said he would do this.
In the same Meet the Press Interview referenced above:
QuotePresident-elect Donald Trump plans to act on the "first day" of his presidency on the cases of some Jan. 6 defendants and said he believes the House members on the select Jan. 6 committee who investigated the 2021 Capitol riot, including Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson and former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney, "should go to jail."
In an interview that aired Sunday on NBC News' "Meet the Press," Trump told host Kristen Welker he would not direct the FBI director or attorney general to do so, but said "I think they'll have to look at that."
The president-elect was also pressed on whether he would pardon some or all of the Capitol riot defendants. He indicated he would not issue a universal blanket pardon: "We're going to look at independent cases." Last week, one of Trump's Senate allies, GOP Sen. Eric Schmitt of Missouri, told CBS News he thinks Trump and the next attorney general should be going through the riot defendants on a "case-by-case" basis.

Clarence could stop down and Trump could replace him with a 24 year old who just passed the bar but is a loyalist who participated in 1/6. It's pretty sure that the next 4 years will will only add incompetents to SCOTUS if anyone left.
