Things that make me grumpy

A line up of things that should have been addressed at home (bumped arm at soccer, of course never iced it. Cut finger last night -not bleeding now) that need to be addressed before I even walk in the door.

Kids that walk in interrupting and yelling loudly about minor complaints while I'm on the phone - i simply assume that they are allowed to do this at home all the time.

Student's coming for minor complaint type things (lip balm, Lumbiderm) 5 minutes before lunch) - really. you couldn't wait?

Parents that never return paperwork, vaccines, whatever then get mad at you when you all them out on it.

Students rushing in 5 minutes past the dismissal bell with sports forms that they had ALL DAY to turn in.

What makes you grumpy???:cautious:

Specializes in School Nursing.

Yes!!! When parents are nurses and try to get away with stuff! Like sending me unlabeled meds. You know darn well I can't possibly do my 6 rights of medication administration with a baggie of pills!

Specializes in kids.

Parents who WORK in the educational system (teachers, guidance, principals) and try to micromanage EVERYTHING!

FFS send your kid to school!!!!

Send in the MD orders for the EPI they are supposed to be carrying. Or even better, send in the EPIPEN!!!!

Specializes in Telemetry, Gastroenterology, School Nrs.

Kids coming in with splinters that they got on Saturday... It's Thursday.

Kids complaining that their head has been itching for days but they keep forgetting to tell Mom.

The kid with the bellyache that hits everyday at 1:15... Which is the same time that Computer class starts.

Getting called to a school because a kid needs a bandaid.

Have a Kindergartner that keeps saying he has something in his eye, won't allow me to flush it and mom has been called x2. Mom says he doesn't complain about this at home, not followed up on (can't really blame her) but kid constantly complains when he sees me. Tell your mom if this is REALLY an issue!

Students who come in and proceed to touch every single thing in my office without permission (especially on my desk) after they have interrupted a conversation I am having with another student. And yes, they are old enough to know better and do not have any known medically impulsive behavior.

I nip that one in the bud fast. I've gotten a few to learn, but it is an uphill battle.

Hmm. Well, I would say having such a busy day, that I don't get my full lunch! Then, I would say, an ill student not being picked up past one hour! Next, would be a full mailbox for any calls placed to a parent for whatever reason. Ahhh, grumpy, hmmm diabetic student who consistently has little to no supplies who expect ME to supply them. Ahhh, emotional/behavioral issue students that the counselor(s)/parent won't deal with but they constantly send to me to babysit. Hmmm, I'll stop there. These come to mind at the top.

Kids who come in with their "nurse pass" and when asked what's going on they just hand me the note. Apparently the note makes them lose their ability to speak, and activates my ability to read minds.

I take that note and throw it in the air. A student that accompanies the ill student and speaks for them. Doing hearing and vision first thing in the morning with a class that will not listen to instructions and keep talking - takes way longer than needed. Student has had headache/stomach ache/earache for 5 minutes. I swear I need a magic wand.

Parents that, when notified that their child is missing a physical, send a receipt from the doctor's office or send in another copy of immunizations. I actually was given a piece of paper that had "well visit" scribbled on it with a date and a completely illegible signature and mom could not understand why that did not count as a physical.

Oh and doctor's offices that repeatedly fax me copies of immunizations, but never the physical that they are supposed to be faxing. Seriously 5 copies of immunizations and not 1 physical exam. Can you guess what I've been doing this week?!

I usually write nice things on my ice packs; stuff like Be you, Rock on, You rock, Dream Big, but today I seriously considered writing No whining, Suck it up buttercup, and unnecessary on them, so I left them all blank. I'm grumpy today!:sniff:

Specializes in School Nurse. Having conversations with littles..

Gonna take a lot to make me grumpy. Had a nice early start to a beautiful weekend in Missouri, had a "business meeting" with my Secretaries from 3 of my buildings last evening for tacos and drinks. Except for me... I was happy to be the DD. And...Early out today and fun weekend plans.

Unnecessary!! Hahahaha! Awesome.

I get the same crap when asking for physicals!! Stop sending me the immunization record! And how can a dr office NOT know that it needs to be on the correct form???

I guess because it had been a long day but I was about to leave for the day when a kid comes in with his parent. The kid complaining that sibling bit him, (no visible bite, blood, teeth indentions), so why was this a nurse problem? Mom was right there. Ugh. I was annoyed. rant over.
