Things that make me grumpy

Published

A line up of things that should have been addressed at home (bumped arm at soccer, of course never iced it. Cut finger last night -not bleeding now) that need to be addressed before I even walk in the door.

Kids that walk in interrupting and yelling loudly about minor complaints while I'm on the phone - i simply assume that they are allowed to do this at home all the time.

Student's coming for minor complaint type things (lip balm, Lumbiderm) 5 minutes before lunch) - really. you couldn't wait?

Parents that never return paperwork, vaccines, whatever then get mad at you when you all them out on it.

Students rushing in 5 minutes past the dismissal bell with sports forms that they had ALL DAY to turn in.

What makes you grumpy???:cautious:

How about when you send a child to a doctor for admission vaccines and the doctor gives the wrong ones like they need dtp, polio, mmr for kindergarten and they come back with second varivax, hep A and a flu shot. I mean these are all really nice, but not what I need to clear this kiddo to start. How on earth does a pediatrician not know what shots a kid needs for school?

Itchy eye, after sweating in gym.. Ya think?? 4 itchy eye visits in the last 2 weeks... Puleaze. My kids know, you go to the nurse if you have a bone sticking out, aren't breathing, or are bleeding out.

Oh yes I can relate to all of these and they all irritate me. It's like you're in a world where common sense is very rare.

I have another!! A lot of my students do this. They bumped some part of their body...elbow, knee, etc. No swelling, no bruising...nothing. But it hurts so bad and they need an ice pack now. Then I see them back in the office about two minutes later to return that magical ice pack and all is okay again.

I was very grumpy today after dealing with the mother of my sweetie with IDDM. She reeked of cigarette smoke, talked about where they've been going out to dinner all weekend, but can't afford to bring in the snacks and ketone strips for her child. Came in to have me check her bg first thing this morning since they have no BG strips for the meter at home. Don't worry though...insurance will pay for them later today. I swear I had smoke coming out of my ears by the time she left.

And yet another itchy eye visit after sweating in gym ! Teacher sent kid down because he was tired.. okaaay. Kid hops into office on one foot from gym after tripping over book bag, states he twisted ankle, looks fine, threw away ice pack after 5 minutes and ran back to gym for push-up challenge...

THIS - Are you kidding . . .I tell the child after checking them out - my office is not for napping because you went to bed late. If you are falling asleep in class then that is a 'go to the office' problem. I write that on the note for the teacher. I rarely see those now.

All the time! I have middle school kids and they need to advocate for themselves. I usually just fold my hands, put a big goofy smile on my face and stare at them. :woot:

Lol, I do the samething with the older kids. They hand me the pass - they stare at me and I stare at them til someone speaks. They must think I'm crazy. I had one kid today ell me he liked the old nurse better, probably because she put up with BS better. If you can't tell me what's wrong then I can't help you.

UG!!! I had this happen last week! A teacher called about a student who is as lazy as the day is long and we had this exchange-

Her: I'm sending Billy down because he is falling asleep in class.

Me: Is he sick?

Her: I doubt it but I've had to wake him up 3 times.

Me: I can check him out but if he is not sick, it's more of a discipline issue

Her: (huge sigh) Fine, I'll just keep him.

Then I see him stroll past my office in the direction of the principal's office.

What the focalin do you expect me to do with the kid?? He is bored and stayed up too late. Last time I saw him, he scoffed and told me he was up until 2am. Not sick. If you send him out, he gets what he wants-- out of your class!

ALL. OF. THE. ABOVE.

Plus - coaches that give students with non-existent boo-boos 34 pound ice bags, no barrier and no further instructions. Kid carries it from class to class until completely melted and then comes to me for more. Yes, I will so happily put another bag of ice on that blazing red ice burn you have!!! NOT...

In the office pass vein today was a doozy. Not only did the student stand there mute but then proceeded to hand me a completely blank pass. Oh and she was escorted by an aide who didn't know who she was. Yep, the struggle is real. Is it Friday yet?
