Things that make me grumpy

Published

A line up of things that should have been addressed at home (bumped arm at soccer, of course never iced it. Cut finger last night -not bleeding now) that need to be addressed before I even walk in the door.

Kids that walk in interrupting and yelling loudly about minor complaints while I'm on the phone - i simply assume that they are allowed to do this at home all the time.

Student's coming for minor complaint type things (lip balm, Lumbiderm) 5 minutes before lunch) - really. you couldn't wait?

Parents that never return paperwork, vaccines, whatever then get mad at you when you all them out on it.

Students rushing in 5 minutes past the dismissal bell with sports forms that they had ALL DAY to turn in.

What makes you grumpy???:cautious:

Today it is the teacher that sent a kiddo down a one and done vomit. I check her over, no fever, she says it was "mostly snot".

I let the kid rest for a bit with no additional vomiting. She says she is feeling better, so I give her a mint and send her back to class. I also give her mom a heads up call.

I KID YOU NOT, five minutes later the same kid comes down with note from the teacher saying "I witnessed her vomiting several times!"

I look at the kid and say "how did you throw up several times and keep that peppermint in your mouth?"

She says "I didn't, I told you I feel better."

I guess the teacher just didn't want her in there since she threw up ONCE. Gah!!!!!

I have one!

This is my second year at this school. I started in the beginning of 15-16 and was here allll year long. We are 2 months into the new school year and I am STILL getting compared to the previous nurse. "Well Nurse so-and-so used to do this" "I remember Mrs. so-and-so always gave us stickers" "Mrs. old nurse let me lay down whenever I wanted!"

The teachers do it too. I DON'T CARE how Mrs. Old Nurse did it! You're in my house now, pal. Get used to it! You've had plenty of time!

When it rains it pours, here's one!

"Constantly asking for a drink of water."

This was written on the nurse pass.

Yes!!!

I get so tired of hearing that. Especially when it is something that is against policy or something that should have never been allowed to begin with. (Like letting an ASD/ADHD 4th grader bringing their controlled substance with them on the bus!) I don't care if that's how the nurse did it last year, that's now how I'm doin' it.

My first year, all of the kids told me the "old nurse gave us jolly ranchers". Ugh! I know she did, that's why I've seen 87 of you today!!! I've been told that I'm less fun. I take it as a compliment!

Someone actually said to me "Oh... I forgot, you like to follow the rules."

Umm...? Yeah, sure do.

I miss my old school sometimes.

Why I don't have cough drops or peppermints. One doesn't work and the other is basically candy. Also why I don't have character band-aids ( I was given some, I save them for my middle schoolers who always ask for band-aids, stopped 'em real quick) or stickers.

I have peppermints. I use them for actual nausea, but also they are handy to review proper manners with the older kids. They don't get abused because if I get a student who comes to my office only asking for a mint, I send them right back to class.

I have been told I'm no fun. I'm okay with that.

Any possibility they are symptomatic for diabetes? Just an off the wall observation...

Had a kid come in with a bad stomachache at the end of the day. Attempted to call mom twice, dad once, and sister once. All with no answer.

I told her she would have to ride the bus home and to let someone at home know to try to answer when the school calls.

Her (obnoxious) teacher from last year comes in, attitude in tow, "Just letting you know, last year she had whooping cough and the nurse said if she would've put her on the bus, the whole bus woulda caught it. So I'm not sure if you should've put her on the bus, her anxiety might make her cough and the whole bus will get it."

Well, then I guess it's a good thing that anxiety isn't as contagious as Pertussis, huh?

Gosh, these people are GETTING ON MY LAST NERVE lately.

I would have come back with, well that nurse doesn't know much, does she? They vaccinate against Pertussis. That would have been a bus full of unvaccinated students.
