I love the thread things you would love to tell your pt and get away with.
But to be truthful for me I love the pts and rarely want to be horrid to them. However I do have lots of things I would like to say to the management and get away with my job. So here are a few things
1/ No you take the extra pt and flex up why should I
2/ Stop sitting on that fat bum and come out here and do some real work for a change.
3/ I wouldnt trust you to help me with my pts because you have no skills left so would be useless
4/ Do you even remember what it was like to work as a floor nurse
5/ Why would I ask you how to do anything you are not upto date and never know the answers
6/ In these days of financial crisis why are you getting an extra shift per week?
Thanks a LOT for talking me into working Christmas Day only to find out YOU were scheduled to work it if I didn't!! Oh, and my family thanks you, too!!
Thanks for having my back when the docs won't sign the discharge instruction sheet because they've already signed the discharge order sheet and they're basically the same darned thing. Yes, he did throw it back at me....um hum...yeah, you saw him do it, yet did nothing! How many times have I suggested a combined discharge order/instruction sheet?!?!?
Tell me again why this meeting is mandatory when all we do is go over the same things time and time again?? And nothing ever changes??
(On a saturday)
"Since I have patients, and I was never told that I am the charge nurse, I don't get charge differential~~ I am not in CHARGE!! Just because you have a family that you need to be with at home doesn't mean that the hospital will run itself while you're at home,, poop has hit the fan and you need to get your lazy butt up here to run this place, when someone dies because your nurses are overworked and don't know their heads from their asses, YOU will get the blame, not me buddy. Remember, I'm not the charge nurse. YOU ARE THE MANAGER NOW, remember? You took that job,, you lost your free time when you accepted that position.."
"No, ONE FREAKING DOLLAR AN HOUR extra is not enough to run this place while you're at home with your family and crap hits the fan and I have no backup to help me out".
"Quit sending the aides and nurses to me when they have a complaint, remember I am not the charge nurse and I have no authority!! what the heck am I suppose to do about it??????"
There's more, but what if she reads this? *****.. I might get 'FYYYEEERRR.. D." LOL
You could have told me earlier that the night nurse called out, instead of waiting until shift change...
Get a pair of roller skates so you can skate by instead of walking by constantly holding your clipboard doing nothing
No, I am not coming in on my day off for another useless staff meeting.
WE NEED A NURSE ADVOCATE !!! ( I did say this !!! )
Why the hell are we always so short staffed??????????????
Ummm...
Remember when you said that if we didn't like filling out those care round sheets, that we were welcome to go somewhere else?
Remember when you said the same thing about standing outside each patient's room to give report, even though HIPAA was clearly being violated due to the relatives who hung around trying to look casual, but who were really trying to get the dope on whether or not their loved one's coughing roommate was infectious?
Remember when you said that we all had to get tougher with the staffing and we couldn't give overtime or incentives for working different shifts or overtime, yet we also had to improve our customer service skills?
Remember when you said that we didn't need people who couldn't manage their time well enough to clock out on time, and they might also find another job somewhere else where they could be happier???

Now that i am no longer at this place :smokin: I can speak freely. One very busy afternoon I had a pt whose had been lethargic all day and that was the condition we recieved in report that morning. That afternoon the family came in voicing concern because she was NOT like that before she broke her hip. At the families request I called the doctor but before that gathered all the info she would ask about including vitals. She had a fairly new nurse assigned to her and I had been helping her all day. Well I saw she had had an elevated bp that am. 202/106 and after investigating the nurse never treated it or reported it to the doctor. So this is 3pm in the afternoon. Multiple discharges followed by multiple admits with no unit rep and we are trying to rule out a stroke on this pt that might have been like that since she came to our floor in the middle of the nite. Family was pisssed as I would have been had it been my family. Well the next morning the house supervisor comes up and this is the conversation:
HS: You know yesterday the manager on call had trouble with the staffing because you didn't make sure the discharges were in the computer so there was extra staff up here and we were short elsewhere and this could have been prevented.
ME: Well this was yesterday afternoon, we had 8 discharges and 5 admits with no unit rep
HS: That is no excuse
ME: I was dealing with a poss stroke pt and having to get stat orders while getting multiple admissions with no unit rep to get their orders started
HS: THAT is no excuse
ME: You know what, You can tell that manager on call that if they feel they can come up here and do a better job under the same circumstances then they need to come up here and do. I am not making excuses, I am explaining why Taking pts out of the computer was not as important as taking care of my pt that could have been stroking.
Well all that time she was writing it down. I lasted another 2 months i think, then they made crap up to fire me.....Thank you god for taking matters out of my hands as i obviously didnt realize how unhappy I was....
What do you mean you want me to give an educational presentation with only 1 weeks notice to all the staff RNs, NPs and 2 MDs? Dang, I am a new grad and a new employee and new to the specialty what gives? Isn't it your job since you wrote up the presentation, arranged the times and dates without regard to my schedule or patients schedules. :angryfire You have a NP who loves teaching so why aren't you asking her?
Why the heck am I always charge? You have plenty of other RNs who have more experience and have been at the facility longer. And where's my extra pay for being charge?

Sounds like you answered your own question.

I love it!!!!!!!!!!
Some of these managers are so fake, I happen to have one that acts like a perfect idiot. If she ask us to work on a day when they are short and we refuse she gets extremely upset. The next day she calls you in her office to tell you something negative. I think that is a form of retaliation.
