  1. Coastal Ga pay is lower as I moved here many years ago from Baltimore But I absolutely love the area, coast and slower paced lifestyle. Less $$ but less stress. í ½í¸Š Works for me
  2. Yes !! Report !!! Just wrong and unethical
  3. Stays in you 30+ days, not just a few NEVER as long as I am working agree tho, much safer than alcohol
  4. I envy you all !!! Nobody at work socializes with anyone outside the job where I"m at !! Either have young children or are too old and just go home !!! :)
  5. Comment to original post ; enjoyed your post !! But Never expect thanks for a job well done, they just give more work for you to do ! That has been and continues to be my experience !!! Took me years to finally decide to slow down & say NO once in awhile. :)
  6. I think I would wear a flea collar on my ankles....., keep standing...!!! and get out as quick as you can.... also spray before you go in too as someone said....dog flea spray
  7. It is Home Care, not Home Health....but a dear friend of mine has been working as a Care Manager for Humana for about a year. She absolutely loves it....she can make her own schedule, schedules her pts., can take as many or as few as she wants. She sees them once a week and does NO medical at all, doesn't even take a blood pressure. It is more finding them resources in the community that they can utilize through Humana. She has 40 plus years working in the hospital and she was burnt out and didn't want direct pt care. She makes good money. Find a company that contracts for Humana that pays well and pays mileage, they all don't. The only downside is extensive computer charting but you can do at home. (no office drama :) )
  8. NEVER !!! I am jealous of the ladies in the gift shop....they get all the perks and NO STRESS !!! LOL All nursing areas have their pros and cons whether it is high stress, admin office drama, low staffing, etc etc... Just do what you like and feel comfortable doing.....stop comparing ....keep looking for your niche.
  9. I am transitioning from "punching a clock" to home care with an agency. Anyone out there working as a Care Manager for an agency that could give me some tips ? Much appreciated !!!!
  10. IMHO there are as many different reasons as there are people.........some are in the mindset that there is such a shortage of nurses so the job opportunities are plentiful ( several friends children/grandchildren think this and are in programs) Some also are aware that there are so many different fields in nursing that you have many options to choose from (pt. care, Administration, UR, Inf. control, emp. health, clinics, hospitals, dr. offices, etc. etc. the list goes on) Some do like the idea of helping others, and are caring, compassionate people...... Some start nursing as a second/third career for higher salaries........... Some (as I) had wanted to be a nurse since I was a little girl.......I just loved MASH and Maj. Houlihan !!!!! Some follow in their mothers/aunts/ etc. footsteps........ agree with SEAS...............who cares? why does anyone choose any career???
  11. poster said she didn't want the "stress level" of a hospital.......she was just working to supplement her husband's income, and wanted a little more laid back job....I think......one to come home and forget about................can't blame her for wanting that !!!! But, in the long term, she may need to work later on....never know what life brings us....I advised her to definately get a year of hospital experience first.........otherwise, her opportunities will be limited later on
  12. In my area (in the South) there are NO RN's in any Dr.'s offices......you are lucky to see an LPN...$$$$$$$$ My suggestion for you is to get a year experience in a hospital on the floor first !!! Then you will be an more of a position to pick and choose..........you need that clinical experience for ANY job you may get....................Don't start off in long-term, it will limit you in the long run......... Take advise from one "ole nurse" to a younger one........
  13. Remember to maintain a calm demeanor at all times..........and above all........Don't take anything personal that may be said to you by a pt. !!!!!! Remember, these are not pts. that always know what they are saying !! Do, as already noted, brush up on side effects of the psychotropic medications..........Many, many are given and it is common to catch these side effects. Progress is slow, so don't expect immediate improvement...........takes time but you will see pts. getting better !! You will also see a lot of returns, as pts. don't always stay on their meds once they leave. Be a good listener, and be patient.............GOOD LUCK !!!!! we love psych nurses !!! The paper charting will come back to you........no big deal............
  14. I don't believe that we are unassertive........that is NOT the reason for no breaks...... We are conscientious (sp?) and care about our pts. and do not want to leave them unattended. We are all understaffed !! .......there lies the problem. No amount of complaining to admin. will get us staffing, I have been in this field for almost 30 years...... We are all replaceable.
  15. well I'm about to give away my age here.......but I can remember when I was in high school, I knew of kids who "sniffed glue" to get high......can you imagine? so I guess this new "bath salts" is what's going on now........ also "Spice" is becoming pretty common that I see with adolescents AND adult admissions...........if they only knew the damage they were doing..........
