Nurses smoking weed?
Nope, not being punked. Just a curious person wondering if nurses like to wind down in different "sorts". But I do think that nurses out there who do smoke weed wouldn't admit it here. Probably would get a lot of backlash from that.

Nurses smoking weed?
No. But as dream'n said, I personally think it's safer than alcohol. My body doesn't work well with alcohol either. The way I relax is playing with my rabbit after a long day at work.

Nurses smoking weed?
Hey nurses, In honor of "420" tomorrow... As a health-care professional, what are your thoughts on smoking weed? Any nurses out there that smoke a joint here and there? Cheers.

Work declining vacation request?
I know I suck at replying at all the comments, but I appreciate everyone's feedback (negative and positive) :) haha. But a little update to you and all: My facility's policy reads, "Unplanned vacation requests can be submitted after Mar 31 on a Leave Request form and will be filled if replacement staff are available." Scheduling said to me today, "3 months is enough time. There's actually some employees that try to book vacations a month before, so you should be fine." I know some people thought my question of, "What if I booked my vacation and they declined?" was a pretty silly, so I probably shouldn't have included that/reworded it at least. I posted this basically to have a some ensight on other people's experience or policy on booking vacations since mine was unclear. Plus I'm new to the whole health-care system. P.S. I'm from good ol' Canada, BC

Work declining vacation request?
I spoke with my facility today, and they said it should be fine :) Apparently 3 months notice is more than enough time. But every place is difference!

Work declining vacation request?
From my understanding, July 5-12 is available so I'm hoping it won't be an issue. But we'll see.

Work declining vacation request?
Yep, still here! I appreciate your reply. I know my post probably gave some people a "*****" reaction. I haven't paid for my vacation, and I should've re-worded that because my post made it seem like I already paid for it. If the decline my request, then they decline it. Nothing I can do about it. Of course I'll be upset, but that's how the cookie crumbles sometimes. I did talk to my other coworkers, and all said it should be fine. (I work with really supportive nurses whom I genuinely care for)

Work declining vacation request?
Wow, thanks for all the helpful feedback! I wanna make a few things clear. I have NOT paid for my vacation yet, so dw :) Also, I read the facility's policy, and it said that one LPN and one RN can go on vacation as long as no other LPN/RN are gone the same time. I msg'd my coworkers to make sure no other vacay overlapped. I understand I haven't accumulated enough vacation pay or what not, so I sent the request as a *unpaid* leave of absense (if that makes any difference). Also, I asked the RN who has been working there 5+ years and he told me 3 months is a good enough time of notice from reading the comments, that varies from a lot of places! He actually told me, "tell them that you already paid for your trip, and as long as you made sure with the other LPNs, she should let you go" I'm going for only one week anyway. Anyway, thanks a bunch everyone for replying!

Work declining vacation request?
Hi everyone, I've been currently working at a LTC facility since mid-January 2016. We are quite short-staffed. My boyfriend and I are wanting to go to Cancun in July. I plan on putting in my vacation request this week. My facility has been known to be stingy on accepting time-off requests... and I'm kind of worried. What if I've already paid for my vacation, and they decline my request? Has anyone have any experience on this? Thanks!

The worst job you had before becoming a Nurse?
I've read some comments, and I see a lot of grocery-store jobs.. Which was my worst job as well. I worked as a cashier throughout my nursing school. It's not that it was hard or anything, but it was the most tedious and boring job I've worked. Standing behind a cashier til for 8 hours ringing people's groceries. The only thing I miss is the lack of responsibility haha

What did you do after nursing?
It's always nice to know you're not alone! I'm in my 20's as well. I have thought of doing something where I can use my creativity or a profession with animals- Still figuring life out. But yeah, definitely still try nursing. It's not an easy career, but you never know... You might surprise yourself. Take it a day at a time. On your days off, you can research career options and find something you truly love. :)

What did you do after nursing?
I feel the same way. I'm sticking with it for now (student loans, ugh). But I know that I want to be more than just a nurse for the rest of my career life. I just don't know what yet though... Thanks for replying, and good luck in your bachelors in IT!

What did you do after nursing?
Hi everyone, Has anyone here decided to change their nursing career into a different profession? If so, what different career path did you choose and why did you leave nursing? Also, are you happier? Good day!

LTC- I hate it. Keep it or no?
Hey, everyone! I recently started working at a long-term care facility as a LPN. I love the elderly, so I thought this would be a good start as a new grad (my first job). I hate it for multiple reasons: only had a 1 day orientation, losing my skills, pushing meds all day, the management is horrible, no days off (very understaffed), and ALL split shifts (8-12pm, 4:30-8:30pm). I can't even go home between my split shifts because I live so far away from it. So I stay in the break room for 4 hours. I can't stand going to work. I dread it everyday... and it's only the first month. People are saying to pay your dues and get experience for one year, so I can get a reference. But I heard hospitals won't even consider you if you've only had LTC experience. Is that true? If it is, should I keep this job or no? Thanks for reading.
